World on brink of climate breakthrough as fossil fuels ‘run out of road’, UN chief says António Guterres says ‘sun is rising on a clean energy age’ as 90% of renewable power projects cheaper than fossil fuels

As the UN Secretary-General says, the energy transition is unstoppable. Renewable energy is the best option for the economy, energy security and access.

But the energy transition is not yet fast or fair enough. To accelerate it, the EU must come out with an ambitious NDC by the September deadline.

In a difficult time for aid budgets and civil society voices, it was encouraging to hear Minister Neale Richmond reaffirm Ireland’s commitment to strengthening the ODA programme, pushing toward the 0.7% target, and promoting disability-inclusive development.
