Why Weโ€™re Losing Sight of How AI Thinks Once, we could catch glimpses of how AI reached its conclusions. Now, those moments are vanishing โ€” and thatโ€™s no accident.

When you fly blind, you trust the pilot completely. But what if the pilot starts hallucinating shortly after takeoff?

Leading AI researchers warn that hiding the thought process increases dangerous results.

So why pull the curtain now? I think I know.

CoT is the โ€œthinking out loudโ€ process some AI models use to break a problem into steps. Itโ€™s like watching someone jot notes as they solve a math problem.

Those steps can reveal where the AIโ€™s going wrong before it spits out a polished but wrong answer or, you know, tries to wipe out humanity. 2/

Remember when The Sims loaded with nonsense updates like:
"Prelaminating Drywall Inventoryโ€ฆ"
"Reticulating 3-Dimensional Splinesโ€ฆ"

You didnโ€™t know what it meant, but it showed the game was loading. Thatโ€™s what AIโ€™s chain-of-thought (CoT) is like โ€” except itโ€™s real and we need it. Here's why:

Everything You Published Became Googleโ€™s Brain You trained the machine and got nothing for it. Now what?

Google has announced its plan to write their own articles and answer search queries entirely.

With YOUR content.

Hereโ€™s how we got into this mess. And what creators need to do to fight back โ€” while thereโ€™s still time.

Your Alienation Is Engineered The numbness, disconnection, and self-censoring you feel is all part of their business model.

The goal is to make you a predictable, known quantity.

Why?

Because predictable people are easier to monetize.

Last week, I wrote about how platforms convert your leisure time into unpaid labor, turning your time into their profit on the Attention Farm. This week, weโ€™re going deeper: into the emotional, relational, and civic costs of living inside their system.

What were you doing right before you picked up your phone just now?

Do you remember why you grabbed it?

If not, youโ€™re not alone. The algorithms are designed to pull you back to your phone, over and over.

Find out why, how, and how to make it stop in tomorrowโ€™s Substack.

Itโ€™s a doozy.

You werenโ€™t supposed to enjoy using the internet. You were supposed to submit to it.

And when you push back? It adapts.

This is a quote over a blurred illustration of someone working on a farm growing cellphones instead of plants. The text overlay reads:

"Behavioral surplus is valuable because it's predictive. The more platforms know about how you behave, the better they can guess what you'll do next: what you'll buy, who you'll believe, how you'll vote, even how you might feel tomorrow. And these predictions can be sold. That's the business model. Not ads. Access to your future. This is where the algorithm comes in."

In this weekโ€™s Substack, I explain how the platforms put you to work for their profit, without your consent.

Spoiler: using private browsing or a VPN doesnโ€™t offer the anonymity you think it does.

I think of all the people who live to graft and grift, insulated from the consequences of their actions.

People who โ€œmove fast and break thingsโ€ while adding nothing noble to our world.

That. Thatโ€™s how I was radicalized.

And you? ๐Ÿชก

โ€ฆwill never get to know. People who couldโ€™ve created things of meaning.

People who might change the world if they werenโ€™t forced to focus on struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food in their belly.

And then? Thenโ€ฆ 4/

Tonight, I am shaken by the sense of how many lives have started and ended without leaving survival mode. How many people have struggled and did their best, and never once caught a break.

People with profound things to share. People who have insights and opinions the rest of us 3/

Tuesday, when the proceeds cleared, I woke up out of survival mode for the first time since leaving home when I was 15.

Today, I wrote the first scene in the novel Iโ€™ve always wanted to write. 2/

Tampa dentist gets 2 years in prison after making more than 100 online threats Richard Glenn Kantwill threatened rape and murder in messages to 40 victims, including politicians and election officials.

Strange how the media has anesthetized this story by skipping his motive. But hereโ€™s a little piece for you:

In September 2019, Kantwill told one victim: โ€œGod bless the Great President Trump and his family. Fuck you and yours. Hire extra security ... youโ€™re gonna need it.โ€

Yes! So much to be said for conveniences, especially when theyโ€™re within walking distance. Whatโ€™s been surprising is seeing that most things, aside from housing, are more affordable in the city. Often better quality, too!

Any Democrat supporting censure better answer for all the times they remained silent on worse behavior.

Enough with the โ€œwhen they go low, we go highโ€ approach. Thatโ€™s just self-righteous defeatism.

When they go low, we need to do roundhouse kicks.

Almost settled into my new place. Itโ€™s been >20 years since I lived in the city and I forgot how much I love it!

Such a strange feeling, though. Itโ€™s like I spliced the soundtrack of my life, cut out two decades, and continued on with the song.

What a stupid act. Even if you legally change your name outside of marriage, many states refuse to amend your original birth certificate. That means no voting for you!

Iโ€™ve cracked the Trump nomination criteria:

1. Do you have a vendetta or feel maligned?

2. If I give you the power to take revenge, will you swear your undying loyalty to me?
