In Con Air, the stuffed rabbit IS nick cage. The long ears reflect his long hair, the plastic bag represents his prison cell, he wants to present this ideal version of himself to his daughter. As the narrative unfolds and nick gets injured, so to does the rabbit become filthy and frankly scary....
Scrooge, arriving at his employee's family home on his one day off with a large group of strangers and a huge raw turkey: "ghosts showed me your family Christmas last night and you were a bit rude about me, so I'm here to make a huge fuss and generally make this whole day about me and my redemption"
Scrooge pretending not to have any patience for banter, while also staffing his company purely with sassy rats and a frog, and then leaving them to close all the windows and blinds after he leaves for the day.

My friend said it was a poor pun, as those are two different animals.

I absolutely love when the relative size of a character is demonstrated on screen using duplicate props at different scales. This is used to great effect in Infinity War, in which we see the mad titan Thanos handing out enormous candy bars shortly after obtaining the mind stone.
