I believe it will be an all out assault on voting rights (look at GA FBI raid yesterday). Having never accused of optimism, I'm still counting on elections happening with heavy oppression of vote and dems winning at least the House. If they get too heavy-handed, they've overplayed their hand.

At this point best way to escape it is if Dems take House/Senate in Nov (and this is going to be a street fight). Perhaps then some accountability comes back, but for now, we're living in states of lawlessness mitigated somewhat by brave judges who are trying to hold the line.
I think about this a lot. When you have citizens who have been shaped to hate their fellow citizens where does the space exist for repair of society? Hard to see how this isn't the trajectory now. Economic collapse might be one way to hold things together, but there's a poison in the body politic.
"in theater" gives the game away. The American people are the enemy. Those who resist their worldview are the enemy. Those who shelter the vulnerable, care for their neighbor are the enemy. War rhetoric intended to show us we are in danger of being "in theater."
I know this is what Putin wants, but, would a split of USA be such a bad thing? The abusers of power in control will oppress us as much as they can. Is this the way we're meant to live? There is nothing sacred about nation-states. They come, they go. Perhaps it's time for that national divorce.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
This Democratic Party may not be up to the moment.
