No way to predict this, says Government of nation whose media outlined exactly this scenario 16 months ago.
Yep
P.S sometimes it’s also being used as car parking 🅿️ 🫠
Lots of people coming to Woolies by active mode today. 🎉
And yes, we need some proper bike parking here 🤣
Govt considering emergency legislation that gives ministers “power to force car-less days, limit the sale of petrol, or provide fuel coupons to ration access.” www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...
This is the same 2020 study you might have seen before, but it's true. I was gamely riding a lightweight street bike when and where I could, but it wasn't until I got an e-bike that the bike became my main means of transport.
Air New Zealand is cancelling flights faster than National doing Policy U Turns. All because of the price of oil skyrocketing straight up. If only we have an alternative ground network to move passengers that was not reliant on oil.
Like electrified inter city/region passenger rail! 👇
Going up: the price of fuel! 📈🛢️
...which may send other transport numbers skyward, e.g. public transport usage, bike paths, people switching from petrol cars to EVs. 👀⚡
Matt Lowrie has whipped up some handy charts to keep an eye on in coming weeks/months: www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/03/12/c...
Thinking about how the 1973 oil crisis in the Netherlands led to petrol rationing, driving bans, parties and playdates on freeways, and the opportunity to imagine an alternative future…
Booked our tickets ASAP, because I won’t be surprised if this sells out before the end of the week.
👋🏙️
A grey day but checked out my favourite part of the city; Westhaven / Wynyard quarter. ♥️
Seawall wasn’t there last time I visited and look at Daldy street. 👏🎉
Now off to the airport. Seems like a good day to leave 💨🍃☔️🙃✈️

One can only hope.

Oh dear. 😆 And yes, that’s the most anti-bike councillor there is in Dunedin.
Lee van der Vis Jumping on a bike because he can’t drive (due to an eye surgery).
Viv Beck has done more to harm Auckland City Centre than anyone before her in their role of Heart of the City
It is known in urban circles that the Manukau Business Association has done more to support Manukau and its renewal than Viv has with Heart of the City and Auckland
Last night was the first time ever I actually walked the full length of Albert Street, I think. In the 10 years I lived in Auckland it has always been under construction for the city rail link.
Another great walking connection with wide footpaths and bollards. Lots of bollards. 👏🎉
Analysis: If the health minister believes the pandemic response was so poor, it's now his job to lay the groundwork to do better next time, writes Marc Daalder. - Newsroom Pro - $ -
We had Covid free concerts, with zero masking, in the summer of 2020-2021. While much of the rest of the world was facing huge death tolls.
Or is it on the priority list of heart of the city it seems. 🫠
They assume the bring money, but all they do is cause annoyance with shoppers.
I’m one of those. When I was living in Auckland I mostly got around by e-bike and PT and grabbed a shared car when I went out of the city. Unfortunately Dunedin doesn’t have that option yet.
As we say in Dutch; people with big/expensive cars probably have something to compensate…..🍆
But seriously, going 80kmh in the middle of a city isn’t cool. 🙄
"We'll have hundreds of older residents [in Dunedin] looking for somewhere else to go, and there isn't anywhere else obvious for them to go."
People need to understand the implications of what 'rates capping' means in practice, and this is one very stark example of where we are heading.
Or just a good/fast train connection. Cars can always be hired.
The Vegas Loop carried 16,400 passengers per day during the expo.
For context, London’s Elizabeth Line carries ~800,000 per day.
Even Victorian steam trains in 1860s London moved 3–4× more people per hour than Elon.
In case you didn’t already know: cars in tunnels aren’t the future of transit…
Wild Dunedin is kicking off in April and it is a bit cycling themed. 🎉👏
A great opportunity to hop on your bike and explore Wild Dunedin. 🦭
