Today’s Fife & Kinross Local Group of Scottish Wildlife Trust walk at Cults near Cupar #Fife. We learned about veteran trees, coppicing, the local history of limestone mining and saw a variety of fungi and lichens @scotwildlife.bsky.social #trees #Fifewildlife
A muddy morning planting grasses for the salt marsh restoration project at Tayport on the River #Tay #GreenShores #saltmarsh #scottishwildlife #Fife
A number of birds like this yellowhammer , song thrushes and great tits have started singing around here and the great spotted woodpeckers are drumming. #fifenature #spring #fifebirding

Press release: Woodland improvements underway at Cumbernauld wildlife reserve | Bylines Scotland
This week's column is about something that's arguably more important than anything in the news, crucial as some of the other issues are.

I just saw seven Bullfinches fly up from the Heather in this heath in the Lammermuir Hills, SE Scotland. Not their usual type of habitat!
A selection of lichens from our @scotwildlife.bsky.social Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve at Fleecefaulds Meadow today. #lichens #Fife
The tree tops are full of winter thrushes at the moment - mostly fieldfares like these in this part of #Fife this year, redwings not so much. Blackbirds are favouring the open grass areas in the local parks and gardens, and song thrushes seem to prefer reedy ditches #winter #birding
Not a single bird seen in this #Fife woodland but, with all the vegetation died back, a good opportunity for finding #mosses and #lichens. #FifeNature @petravergunst.bsky.social @britishlichensociety.org.uk #winter
📍 Kinghorn Beach | Fife Coastal Path
Fulmars tucked in along the cliffs.

📍 Aberdour Castle #Fife
A classic village sound, the jackdaws and rooks circling at dusk to roost by the castle.

#Fife is such a great county! Boxing Day and miles of empty beach. Tentsmuir Forest National Nature Reserve @naturescot.bsky.social in the distance. #Fifenature #Scotland
Some breed but much larger numbers come in winter
A very happy Christmas to all our followers. One of 15 redpolls in a flock of goldfinches yesterday
It never seemed to get properly light under the dense cloud today and most birds were staying hidden…..but there’s always at least one show off! Male stonechat. Check fence lines and the tops of bushes. #Fifenature #winterbirding
Today quickly turned dull and drizzly here in north #Fife so it was good to be reminded that it’s the winter solstice and from now the days get longer #solstice #winter
Warmer winters may be changing the flowering times of plants, with knock-on effects for all our wildlife. The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland needs your help to track this. Join the New Year Plant Hunt this January bsbi.org/take-part/ac...

Newly created pond on a #Fife farm. Wet areas like this will become increasingly important to wildlife as climate change progresses. Good to see some farmers responding to the challenge. @scotwildlife.bsky.social #climatechange #conservation
Sheep grazing our Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve, Fleecefaulds Meadow #Fife. Over winter they tackle the coarse vegetation which would otherwise dominate the meadow flowers including several species of orchid.

We’re celebrating the birds on our maps but losing them in the real world.
If trends continue, those road names might be the last place these species survive. 👇

Fife & Kinross Local Group of Scottish Wildlife Trust @scotwildlife.bsky.social had a great event on Sunday evening. Libby Penman, wildlife filmmaker and photographer entertained us with great slides and videos of wildlife from @Fife, Scotland and across the world. www.instagram.com/libby.penman...
Still a few moths about in north #Fife. A well-marked Mottled Umber and a male December Moth with cracking antennae from last night’s catch. #moths #mothing @mothiduk.bsky.social @nature.org @naturescot.bsky.social @scotwildlife.bsky.social
It’s always worth scanning the fields at this time of year. This nice flock of thirty golden plovers has been hanging around for a couple of weeks. #Fife #Fifewildlife #waders #winter #birdingScotland
Redwing, Siskin, Meadow Pipit and Goldcrest at Riverside Nature Park, Dundee today. No sign of yesterday's Greenland White-fronted Goose, but an unexpected Snow Bunting was a pleasant surprise and new for my 2025Dundee150 list (no pics unfortunately).
Today’s work party on our Bankhead Moss reserve in #Fife cleared birch saplings from the central dome of the raised peak bog where they had been encroaching #Fifewildlife #conservation #peatbogs
Plenty of hawthorn berries on our Fleecefaulds Meadow reserve for the redwings and fieldfares this winter #berries #ScottishWildlifeTrust #winter @scottishbirding.bsky.social #Fifewildlife #Fife
Another amazing fungus, the aptly named ‘Yellow Brain’ from a local park in north #Fife #Fifewildlife #ScottishWildlife #fungi
Thanks to all who voted in the Nature of Scotland Awards-the Kilminning wetland project won the Community Initiative award! #birdingFife
