The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For β€˜doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

This week's column is about something that's arguably more important than anything in the news, crucial as some of the other issues are.

I just saw seven Bullfinches fly up from the Heather in this heath in the Lammermuir Hills, SE Scotland. Not their usual type of habitat!

The tree tops are full of winter thrushes at the moment - mostly fieldfares like these in this part of #Fife this year, redwings not so much. Blackbirds are favouring the open grass areas in the local parks and gardens, and song thrushes seem to prefer reedy ditches #winter #birding

It never seemed to get properly light under the dense cloud today and most birds were staying hidden…..but there’s always at least one show off! Male stonechat. Check fence lines and the tops of bushes. #Fifenature #winterbirding

Warmer winters may be changing the flowering times of plants, with knock-on effects for all our wildlife. The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland needs your help to track this. Join the New Year Plant Hunt this January bsbi.org/take-part/ac...

Sheep grazing our Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve, Fleecefaulds Meadow #Fife. Over winter they tackle the coarse vegetation which would otherwise dominate the meadow flowers including several species of orchid.

Streets named after birds in Britain on rise as species’ populations plummet RSPB says growing trend for honouring species that are in decline is not matched by action on conservation

We’re celebrating the birds on our maps but losing them in the real world.

If trends continue, those road names might be the last place these species survive. πŸ‘‡
