Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important

When the boss destroys a part of the railing for the first time, the player has to contend with the possibility of falling from the arena for the first time while under pressure. And that is SUCH a good way to surprise a player in a way that is both affordant and doesn’t feel unfair.

The broken railings aren’t a threat per se - it’s not like the boss has a push attack, and the boss arena is rather large. But when a player fights the boss, they are not initially expecting to need to watch their footing on penalty of death.

Dragonslayer Armor in Dark Souls 3 being able to destroy the railing of the bridge you fight him on is so cool. I think it’s really clever as creating a cool vibe for the boss fight.
