Ray Harryhausen's marvelous 2004 statue of David Livingstone in the grounds of the house where he was born in Blantyre just to the south of Glasgow (now home to the David Livingstone Centre).

“Made by” is the key phrase there: plainly untrue, but the cultural worldview that talks this way is what allows them to be so powerfully awful.

That looks like a fairly big legal land mine to have stepped on. Good.

I’m not nominating anything, obvs. But if we decide not to charge students for tuition (good!) we need to find the money from somewhere and not just pretend it isn’t required. Each Eng Uni gets about £4k more per student per year than Scottish ones and that is unsustainable.

This is something to be proud of only as long as Scottish Universities are still being adequately funded for the students they teach. But they are not.

In 1967, philosopher of language Michael Dummett and his wife, the author Ann Dummett, were arrested for picketing against racial discrimination, charged with public disorder, but acquitted upon an official admission that the police, not protesters, had obstructed passage.

You obviously listened closely to the “Brits Out” message and indeed got out of Britland.

This is the most faux macho silliness I have ever seen on Bluesky.

Watch sleepytime and try and type that again.

New paper forthcoming in the British Journal of Aesthetics on perception of VR:

TLDR:
Virtual reality offers a different experience to most other images. Yet VR also often contains elements that distinguish it from regular perception, which can help prevent harms!

I've made a series of individual match posters for Celtic's European Cup run in 1967 before, but never a standalone design until now. Prints available on the shop if you fancy one! madebyfrankie.bigcartel.com

@kermodeandmayo.bsky.social did I miss “Deep Cover” review? Or is it too new/too streaming-y?

I thought it was a total riot. Haven’t laughed that hard at a film since… Booksmart, maybe?
