This was the case in the Red Sea in 1984 when Libyan mines hit 19 vessels including Soviet, Polish, East German and Chinese vessels.

Only following a large effort by MCM assets from Egypt, USA, France, The Netherlands & UK - and actually Soviet Union - the area was cleared,

Substantial resources that are perhaps not available are required to clear areas. Furthermore, these MCM units have to be protected.

The disadvantage is that unless controlled mines or smart mines such as the Finnish Forcit mines, they don't discriminate between friend or foe

Deploying sea mines in The Strait Hormuz is likely a sign of desperate measures and/or breakdown of C2.

The advantage of sea mines is that they are easily deployed, low cost, and create a high level of anticipated risk & uncertainty disproportionate to their kinetic value.

Good one Robin 🎯 If they understood that risk drives decision and insurance cover. We have tons of clients that have cover and none are going through - because of risk. Risk to first of all seafarers, then to vessels, to cargo and finally to reputation.

The Danish Air Force has conducted long range patrol training for F-35 with support of NATO MRTT tankers. The fighters flew from Skrydstrup Air Base to Iceland & back, or about 5,000 km. Denmark has funded two new Airbus MRTT, which will be operating from Denmark when delivered.

I did not have a submarine torpedo a frigate on my 2026 Bingo Card.

The last time it happened was 2 May 1982 when HMS Conqueror sunk the ARA General Belgrano

He stated the other day it is not impossible with nuclear weapons on Danish soil (not in reference to French weapons per se) so rest asured it is “being considered”. Considered is not the same as happening (now) or with French nuclear weapons.

US rules out prospect of naval convoys to restart Hormuz transits The US has ruled out naval protection for tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to industry officials. Nevertheless, at least three Greek owners are discussing fixtures through the strait, with one Greek-owned suezmax potentially passing through around midnight on Monday

Please get real. No convoys are possible until a sufficient degredation of Iranian capability has been reached. One thing is destroying the primary capabilities, but for Hormuz it is also secondary and tertiary capabilites down to UAVs and USVs.

Fik endeligt hørt den i dag i bilen og den er aldeles glimrende! Det med NATOs fremtid er noget der bør diskuteres åbent.

I think you misread. He was talking about the NATO sharing, not the French.

The minister for defence specifically mentioned the Danish F-35 could be used for NATO nuclear sharing, but did not mention specifics for the French deterrence

“Considering” is exactly what they have done and will be doing. Note what Troels Lund Poulsen said the other day. Let’s wait and see…

The Danish Government press brifing underlines Denmark’s willingness to contribute to nuclear deterrence with France but also, at the same time, to participate in NATO’s nuclear deterrence. Nuclear weapons on Danish soil in peacetime is not yet on the agenda.
Let’s see about that….

Det er vel en koalition der kan udvides, men Frankrig tillader ikke at NATO får indflydelse på den franske afskrækkelse, hvilket desværre har vist sig at være meget klogt.

Yes, indeed, this is why it said "in peacetime". In wartime we would use nuclear weapons placed just south of the Danish-German border.

Denmark joins French "extended nuclear deterrence" along Sweden, Germany, UK, Poland, Belgium, The Netherlands and Greece.

The Danish government considers stationing of nuclear weapons. The Cold War opposition to nuclear weapons on Danish soil in peacetime was a policy and not by law.
