I also cringe with embarrassment when I see a Forest fan winding up, or lauding it over Palace fans regarding UEFA’s decision. Our fans should know better than any, what it’s like to be penalised for being outside of the “big club” cartel.

Except that this isn’t really the case. But I suppose if the media, esp, social media, push this narrative enough, it’ll take root. I’m a Forest fan, and empathize totally with Palace fans. It’s only a small number of the more vocal fans on social media that think Forest/EM had ANY part in this.

Brendan McDonagh couldn’t fix a crisis he profits from For those in power, housing is an asset that must perpetually increase in value.

"Statistics released last year showed that 41 percent of young people aged 18 to 34 live at home with their parents. Meanwhile, as of October 2024, investment funds had acquired 46 percent of all apartments built since 2017 letting them at exorbitant prices."

They're going after Parkrun again, you know, that event where lots of people of all ages, abilities and genders run around a local park and it not, in any form, a race?

Dash! are so proud of our new music video for our single LUAS.
We loved working with @paulduane.bsky.social and the crew, especially how keen he was to shoot documentary reportage footage of our spacetravel exploits on your Irish Public Transport System...

A lot of the reaction video-shtick I don’t care for, and find them vacuous and cynical content-creating schemes. But this guy! This guy has really fallen in love with Cardiacs, and it’s been a joy to watch that wonder unfold over the course of a number of videos he’s done on them.

Do you have knowledge of a song, in either Irish or English, that is related to life along Ireland’s Atlantic coast? If you do and you would like to share your story, we would love to hear from you. #MaritimeHistory www.ouririshheritage.org/content/arch...

Pat Ingoldsby in his hat in the streets of Dublin selling his poetry

RIP Pat Ingoldsby a much loved poet. Connected with people of all ages. Probably the first real life poet many of us saw as kids on TV or on the streets of Dublin selling his poetry collections.

"It’s mixed. It needs mastering. It sounds really good. It’s floating somewhere between Sing to God and Guns, with lots of call backs to Little Man and a House. It's a real out of the ashes. I’m really, really proud of it.”

TDs shouldn't be landlords and this shouldn't be an even remotely controversial thing to say.

So many simple solutions for the housing crisis that get shouted down as very controversial.

"People should be able to afford their rent"

"Lol check out this economically incoherent rube over here"

Here's something that takes seconds and could have actual positive outcomes.

There is an official 'citizen's petition' system in the EU. There's one open at the moment to ban conversion therapy for LGBT+ people in the EU.

Ireland can be 1 of the 7 nations needed

Room for the Soul of the Wanderer: Commemorating Charles Robert Maturin —A biographical sketch in which I explore his underappreciated legacy in his native Dublin. For in a city that celebrates the most minute achievement of its writers past and present, there’s not a single plaque commemorating him

Week one in Trumpland: The first step is seeing what’s in front of our faces We should resist the voices attempting to tell us it’s all fine

I wrote this about the media's first big test of Trump 2.0, and how poorly it scored. On the tedious, vital work of seeing what's in front of our faces for the next four years.

Opinion | AI Can Work for Us A.I. can be designed to dramatically enhance individual empowerment.

"Imagine a world in which an A.I. can analyze your reading patterns and alert you that you’re about to buy a book where there’s only a 10 percent chance you’ll get past Page 6..."

Fuck off. That's not empowerment, that's outsourcing your soul. That's outsouling.

Rest In Peace Tony Slattery. I’ve such fond childhood memories of late nights watching Whose Line is It Anyway with my Dad. An exceptional comedic talent, a razor sharp wit, and a fine actor too, I hope he’s at peace now. Thanks for the memories, Tony. And thanks for the laughs.

The Irish Times view on the National Archives: a vital resource which has been consistently neglected The service is chronically understaffed and underfunded and too many archive services are undermined by the restrictions under which they operate

Good to see the @irishtimes.bsky.social raise this issue; their analysis is pretty spot-on. I would only add that there has also been a neglect of local archives (where lack of an archivist can mean no access for researchers) and semi-state bodies. These are vital.
