Excellent so far. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the rest!

The problem with the idea that Epstein was forcing elites into some kind of scheme is that we have a lot of the communications between them and him and they seem to regard him as a fun buddy

It's simple. Just announce the war is over every morning before the stock market opens. Then right after it closes double down with threats of an even bigger, longer war.

Just do this every day forever. The war and the market siloed off in two alternating realities that never meet.

3: Chicken chili is a distinct form of stew, not a subset of true chili

I have had good chicken chili before and it was good, but I have never eaten chicken chili and thought “yes, this deserves to be called chili”

My thoughts on chili:
1: Beefless chili is bad.
2: Beanless chili is a monstrosity

Trump's been brainlessly blabbing all day, variously asserting the war is over, that we'll take over a big chunk of the Persian Gulf, that Iran must be destroyed... empty nonsense, like LLM slop.

If you want to look for market manipulation, look at the press outlets who cherry-picked comments.

It’s just so insane to me that you can see the exact point where American traders woke up and “nothing ever happens” took over

The problem of consciousness has not been solved, it’s one of the greatest unknowns in the entire field of philosophy

Cities pay rural areas fair market rates for the food they purchase. That’s not benevolent generosity from the rural people, it’s self-interested economic transactions.

Teamed up with liberal democracies to defeat fascism *after* initially siding with the fascists and providing them material aid and getting backstabbed for it

If consciousness is a spectrum where there is no hard cutoff, then sure. But it’s entirely possible to imagine someone who thinks a graphing calculator falls below the cutoff and an LLM falls above it.

Whether they’re right or not would require a clear and usable definition of consciousness

You are also a simulation based on a model of the real world. One of the biggest intractable problems in philosophy is that the mind does not interact with the world directly, only with what it can assume is the case from sensory inputs.

Talk with a chatbot for a few minutes and you’ll see it’s obviously capable of asking clarifying questions.

In the context of a program that can do nothing but write and read, that IS “seeking input”

Again, I don’t think LLMs are conscious, but your qualifiers here are things they can actually do!

Yes we do. Neurons are computable.

We know HOW to compute the brain, what we don’t have is 1: a map and 2: enough computing power.

Both of those are solvable problems. If we someday solve those problems, would the human mind then be considered no longer conscious?

That’s because LLMs are plugged into a call-and-response style chat UI, not because of anything about their fundamental nature.

You could easily program an implementation where it chatters to itself nonstop unless given “sensory” input. It’d just be worthless and very expensive to do so.

I don’t think LLMs are sentient, but this seems like a pretty obvious answer, the LLM is capable of more things that we associate with consciousness than a graphing calculator is.

Why are we sentient when a roundworm isn’t? We’re still using neurons, after all.

YOU are a simulation of the human brain. You’re just using neurons instead of processing chips.

If some mad scientist grew a meat computer and ran ChatGPT on it, would that make it a contender for sentience even though nothing about the program itself has changed?

I have a portable battery that magnetically clicks onto the back of my phone and stays put while it charges, and I find that a lot more convenient than the corded ones. Other than that though, I’ve never used the stationary wireless chargers

It just wasn’t an absolute humiliating demolition like his other work

Post DOGE I think of redistributive taxation far less in terms of redistribution itself than in terms of taking away social-political nuclear launch codes from people who can’t be trusted with them.

Ken you’ve been much better than a lot of democrats but this is pathetic and weak

It’s an illegal war! There will be no explanation that makes any difference in the slightest, because it was a fucking unconstitutional act! SAY THAT

I’m no wrecker, I will continue to argue that every decent person must vote blue no matter who, but that commitment needs to be paired with an equal commitment to applying real scrutiny to the party, its sclerotic leadership class, and its suffocating machine-like dynamics
