The persistent belief that people who believe abhorrent things are identifiably abhorrent 100% of the time is honestly going to kill us all.

If IGN has layoffs, nobody in games press is safe. If Microsoft has layoffs, nobody in platforms is safe. If Ubisoft and Bungie and NetEase have layoffs, nobody in game development is safe. If the Romeros get their funding pulled, no studio is safe.

It's rough out there, right now.

there have ALWAYS been layoffs in games media that defied logic, from joystiqs closure to kotaku's non-stop musical chairs, even at the best of times.

but they always felt peripheral. "well that won't happen at IGN", or "at least polygon is OK". but they're not! nobody is ok!

Honestly, with hindsight, Radcliffe, Watson and Grint's public statements where they sided with trans people, expressed their support with no caveats, and willingly blew up any chances at future ties to the franchise has only gotten more and more noteworthy as more actors are revealed to be cowards

I stayed at IGN for so long because I thought it was safe. I love my co-workers and wanted to help them build a better company

Layoffs damage workplace culture well beyond those let go. They create fear, uncertainty and reduced trust. Remaining staff often face heavier workloads and a loss of psychological safety. If IGN is profitable, this move will ultimately harm the company, its culture and bottom line long term.

I cried this morning because so many of my wonderful colleagues were laid off today, even after the success of IGN Live and Comic-Con.

After today's layoffs, I am now the only social team member left in LA.
How am I supposed to do my job?

I am one of the eight IGN members laid off. During my three years at IGN, I worked for some of the best creators and writers around. I will miss them all dearly.

I’m gunna miss my co-workers most of all. Every single one of them is talented and deserves the world and like a six figure salary as a base!!!

Not only is Chelsea a delight of a human and endlessly knowledgeable about SUCH a wide variety of topics, but she’s a damn great editor and coworker. Hire Chelsea.

Chelsea is one of the best out there. Not only as a fucking awesome editor but also a person. She will ride or die for her team. Always has your back and makes it known and will be a voice for those who might not be able to speak up. You’d be lucky to have someone like this on your team

Every time I worked with @lawoftd.bsky.social as an editor was a great experience. @oswinstark.bsky.social cut so many of my video reviews that we were almost like a tag team, and her ability to turn subpar or too little footage into something exciting was clutch. Hire them before someone else does.

Hello! You may have seen it, but I am one of the employees that have been impacted by layoffs at IGN.

It's been a great six years, but this now means I am looking to apply my talents to something new and exciting.
