Reading the HIDTA report on Oklahoma medical cannabis left me frustrated and deeply concerned about the narratives we allow to shape public policy.
Hereβs my effort to call it out.

Very off-base take. It wasn't just shell companies. The exceptions for the filing were extremely limited. As someone who despises orange man and the American oligarchy, I'm happy to not have to disclose my small business information to the government. Many folks would have been hit with major fines.
04.03.2025 15:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0These type of half truth agenda-reports really don't serve our understanding of the times or help us overcome the varying degrees of tyranny we endure. Also fuck Trump and his oligarch friends who will actually benefit from this as well...
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To me it honestly felt like the equivalent of auditing peopleβs Venmoβs. Like bro, thereβs this super obvious way we can get $2.7T more in taxes from corporations alone, why are you looking at me? And if you have a state-legal weed business, you want to disclose that to the Feds..? At this time...?
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0At the same time, since this is information every publicly traded company already shares with the government, it also didnβt seem like a stretch to require it if youβre a revenue generating business...
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Having to work on this directly, the requirement was putting a burden on any American with an LLCβ¦ especially if they didnβt know how to navigate it and had pay thousands to hire a law office to handle it (π).
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Like you could have an LLC and a marketing website that never gets visited and still owe the gov $500 a day if you didnβt file this on time and that is certainly bullshit for regular people when we have obvious exploited loopholes by not-regular people.
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This requirement has been on again off again due to nationwide injunctions from cases questioning the constitutionality of requiring every mom and pop shop in the country to fill this out or be fined $500 a dayβwhen many business owners had no idea about it.
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The BOIR filing requirement wasnβt just for shell companies. It was for virtually every company unless there was an exceptionβlike it being publicly traded, since those already share detailed structure and distribution filings with the SEC...
04.03.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The FinCen filing has been a real bane of my existence for awhile, and I really dislike how @rollingstone.com is presenting this story. Trump's bragging about something the courts have been litigating without him for months...

Last Friday Senator James Lankford (R-Okla.) introduced the "No Deductions for Marijuana Businesses Act," a bill aimed at preventing cannabis businesses from qualifying for federal tax deductions or credits even if cannabis is rescheduled.

There is no greater hell for legal weed than Illinois.
Word is both men who filed suit were named CHAD.
All the content my friends share out of Austin Texas feels like a pharmaceutical commercial for new age kids.

23.01.2025 00:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is literally what lost the election. An uninspired campaign that was built on nothing but opposition. They just need to stop gaslighting people and become a working class party again.

15.01.2025 14:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know the whole farm bill weed thing is controversial, but here in Wisconsin itβs all we have access to. There are legitimate companies producing COAs and prioritizing health. Folks like JB and the big corporate mid companies that donate to politicians are just mad theyβre losing money on it.

I found JBβs βpower of special interestsβ comment esp hilarious since the legal weed lobby has IL officials trying to reduce access via farm bill amendments as well

The tl;dr on SB 39:
1. Formalizes prohibition and penalties for carrying while impaired on mmj
2. Protects your 2A rights to an Oklahoma handgun license as an mmj patient
I talk precedents, penalties and more on the Gies Law Firm blog.

11.12.2024 14:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To be fair, the FDA has operated as a revolving door for pharma companies, is funded by them, and has failed miserably in regulating opioids and handling recalls like Zantac. It shouldnβt be preserved in its current state, but itβs easy to see why a pharma CEO would fight to keep it that way.
