i wonder if "ai art" satisfies people's desire for making art? or code? or writing?

using outputs from an LLM would never satisfy my need to be creative

there is a video of my 4th birthday party in 1991 of me getting a big bird computer game and showing people how to play.

i don't know which memories were before that but my parents had some sort of computer my whole life

i hung out with all the skeptics and atheists in college but almost all of them ended up being assholes and objectivists. they were sort of the opposite of someone who is rational and compassionate.

so many of them were the embodiment of atheist for the sake of atheism and it was embarrassing

i have been forgetting to post this. we have a crisscross binding and i tried to use a sorta "library corners" and cut them to give a rounded look. It's filled with blank dot grid paper that i typeset

i made a box like this totally from scratch using fake green leather and dark green velvet! the magnets are not quite strong enough and i'd change it a but more next time but it's still quite nice

just got this book at the thrift store. it has to be one of the rarest books i own. they made 35 of them in 1922 and sold 25 of those. they were signed by hergesheimer and swire.

the paper is watermarked with france and a common pattern.

the uncut paper had deckled edges but was cut and left

a box about 4 inches wide, 8 inches long, 2 inches deep covered in olive green book cloth. there is a seem down the middle and some angled cutouts. the two parts of the lid are held together with magnets

the box is now open and it hinges from both sides to open in the middle. inside the top and bottom are blue book cloth. the box is filled with knives, erasers, rulers, bone folders, etc

here is one of the first boxes i did with book cloth! i use this all the time for book binding tools.

i didn't make this entirely from scratch but i totally ripped apart a box wrapped in paper and rebuilt it with book cloth

i just cannot bring myself to post the day to day horrors of our society and try to post cat pics, projects, and stuff.

and we have the houses (or could easily build them) for everyone!! its beyond an outrage that people are without shelter

how about new medicines, rural broadband, high speed rail, fucking food for everyone?? globally?? there is so much tech i want to embrace

wtf is with this shit they pretend is transformational but just consumes a huge amount of resources and has transformed nothing for the better?

now i get stuck solving incidents because nobody understands the architecture and most lack basic troubleshooting skills. they will put what i say into ai then paste that into an incident chat when it contradicts what i tell them.

i've been getting into book binding again but restoration and repair of my old books has become far more interesting.

as a tech worker, i know how poorly digital data is handled and its so sad that things are trending towards disposable information and away from physical media.

bound a new notebook in hardcover using a crisscross binding and made a slipcase for it. i really like this style and might like box making more than bookbinding sometimes

photo of me holding a small box covered in olive green book cloth. the front of the box is a panel with for sections vertically. each section has a round button and a dial. the dial has an inner and outer ring etched with 0 through 9. if you just read the larger dials it reads 1312. the smaller dials are all zero.

i made this box for this super cool panel i got at the thrift store! the dials are high precision potentiometers that are solid metal and make nice clanking sounds as you go all the way around and increment the larger ring

this works! its not water resistant so thats limiting but the nice green paper covers book board easily. i only have 0.2mm board so its a little too thin for a book cover in its own. i can laminate it a few times but i'd like to find a supply of heavier board that doesnt require buying 100kg
