yes, especially once there is no oil and the electric grid has failed and groklets run the internet
Donald Trump letting you know how the authoritarian capture of the media is going, in case you missed it. Unlike other authoritarians in places like Hungary and Poland he has no worries about advertising his authoritarian take over of the media.
What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”
What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”
Funny how that works.
Inside the Department of War are two wolves:
"We've shut down the Colleges of War because book learnings are woke, gay, and irrelevant to war fighting."
"How come no one told us the Strait is important, there are different kinds of Kurds, Iran is big, and air power historically doesn't win wars?"
It's a great article!
One line popped out (topic for another article?) "There’s no way to automatically check a legal brief written by A.I. for hallucinations — other than face total humiliation in court." But why do they not use LLMs to play opposition & help debug briefs, not just write them?

every quantitative measure is actually a stack of qualitative assumptions in a trenchcoat
excellent news!
On the plus side, if the US Treasury and government collapse those numbers won't be worth much anyway
And much of the the last bits of the natural world we have not destroyed already
I doubt Hegseth sees any red lines
As many as 140 servicemembers injured. 7 killed. Thousands of Americans stranded in the region with a target on their backs and no escape.
All for a war that a draft dodger cannot even articulate a coherent and consistent justification for.
How. Is. This. America. First.
I hope i am terribly wrong about this, but when I read that article I could almost hear Hegseth arguing to Trump that the solution is to launch a nuclear attack on Iran
As millions of Americans were losing their SNAP benefits the Pentagon spent:
🔹️$6.9 million worth of lobster tails🦞
🔹️$15.1 million for ribeye steak 🥩
🔹️$2 million for Alaskan king crab 🦀
🔹️ and even $98,329 on a Steinway & Sons grand piano

This is what ecocide looks like.
Newly released footage shows an ICE agent killing Rubin Ray Martinez, 23, in his car in Texas.
"He was shot at point-blank range through his side window by an ICE agent who was in no danger."

The messages are about him, not by him.
"The president, trained by the mob lawyer Roy Cohn, famously avoids giving written orders and looks askance at lawyers who take notes during his meetings". Also may explain why no Trump emails with Epstein
EXCLUSIVE: Military commanders aren’t just preaching “Armageddon” in the Iran war…
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation tells me that after the first U.S. bombs fell Saturday, some commanders scheduled emergency …… Bible studies for Sunday.
Please explain why you insist on callling it "Trump and Israel's war"? Call it Trump and Netanyahu's, or America and Israel's. Your non-parallel phrasing--which you use repeatedly-- seems to absolve Americans and blame all Israelis.
The cult of efficiency sees value only in the product, and denigrates the process. Which is devastating to craft, and to learning.
This is horrifying because it implies the Iranian school mistargeting was down to Claude layer in Palantir systems. What’s more horrifying is that if the rest of the article is accurate AI was a massive force multiplier for US/Israel strikes.
I feel like we typically see these sorts of completely outraged opinions from federal judges a couple times a year across the whole country, maybe a little more often in last few years. Now, in cases stemming from Trump's immigration crackdown, judges are ringing the alarm bell several times a week.
Just a random reminder that over 50 members of Congress collectively own millions of dollars in defense contractor stocks.
They stand to personally profit from wars that enrich these contractors.
Make no mistake, this is legalized corruption.
Watch how they vote this week.
What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.

Right now, their website shows some mild cautions for much Middle East travel
