What an amazing year it's been.

You know Dispatch is good when you think "WOW are there any other games like Dispatch?" and the recommendations you get you aren't interested in because they're not quite like Dispatch.

One issue with Dispatch rn is that letting the timer run is no longer an option (it coin flips the response), which is a shame because I love just noping out of conversations and it actually leads to some interesting interactions like not losing your shit as Bruce Wayne or pulling punches as Bigby.

On a lighter note, if Paris Games Week showings are anything to go by then Sony is fucking dead so that's one silver lining.

So that's day 1 of Paris Games Week done.

I enjoyed myself overall and I'm excited for day 2 tomorrow, but honestly I have...

...thoughts...

Especially with one game/studio in particular that I'd rather not have these mixed feelings about.

I've also noticed that there are a lot of parents bringing their kids along. I think this has always been a thing, but it feels really prominent this year.

It makes sense since the event takes place during French holidays, but maybe the Switch 2 is doing work here as well.

So far I've spent most of the morning scouting the new venue layout and trying out a bunch of the French indie games. Now that the lines are getting long there, I've moved to bigger studio games.

Currently in line for MonHun Stories 3.

It looks really good.

My two day pass let me skip a good bit of the entry line and I'll be making the most of it to check out some games with more A's, but I do feel like 2 days was almost too mich tile with the new venue size.

So I'm finally in lines long enough to warrant some quick thoughts to post.

1. This year is probably the smallest one that I attended and I attended the last two years.

2. A bit confused about why they moved around the French indie game section.

On my way to day 1 of PGW. I'll make a proper photobloh on my PRO account, but I'll post some impressions here until then.

So my new going definition of a good comedy game is:

1. The game is fun.
2. The game is funny.
3. The funny is part of the fun.

It must pass all three criteria for me to consider it a "good comedy game".

The thing is, the level of writing you need to write a good comedy is much higher than non-comedy writing.

This is especially true in the interactive media of games where there is so much more content and most of it is repeated.

There is a big difference between a game that makes you laugh and an outright comedy game.

Expedition 33 could remove the mimes and the yelling Gustave scene without losing too much, but take the jokes out of, say, Tales of the Borderlands and the game becomes barely playable.

Haven't touched the sequel of the first game's dlc's, but my impressions of The Outer Worlds is that you really need to judge the game like a comedy game seeing as the sarcastic tone bleeds into the mechanics.

At that point, your game lives and dies by its ability to make you laugh.
