I don't know when in the show he's revealed to be evil but they could have done so before then XD

This Paul was only on the show from January to May but it was the same year the gallery started selling their Paul paintings.

No reporting I have access too online has made this connection either but thats a really weird choice to make for a pseudonym in this context right??

What really caught my attention though was the *alias*

Paul Valere is a very unique name.

If you go looking online there's only a few other Paul Valere... including one from 1987... who was a character in a show called Guiding Light... who SOLD FAKE ARTWORK 😱

When agents attempted to check the artists credentials, they could not even verify his existence. Gallery officers led the search for the artist. French art dealer Robert Fruchter re-fused to produce the painter, jealously guarding what Edward King of Simic de-scribed as "his trade secret. Without so much as the artist's real name, gallery owner Mario Simic hired a team of French private investigators to track down the reclusive 65-year-old painter. Hearing a report that the artist lived in a small village, Simic flew to Paris and drove to the town to find the elderly artist, whom he flew to California.

So the gallery reportedly hired private investigators to find "Paul" and fly him to California to paint for the FBI to prove he was real.

That doesn't *disprove* the accusation of selling additional fakes but it was enough to drop charges at the time.
