"Glass Geographies: Finding places and spaces in Ivy Grimes' Glass Stories" -- Ben Lockwood
Ben Lockwood's essay about the role of geography - and the ways in which place & space can be ambiguous - in Ivy Grimes' short stories has made me think hard about inside/outside, domestic, and wild, safe and not...

You bolt awake in the mountains of Carthage. You are not online. It is 217 BC. You are the general Hannibal, and you have changed your mind. The future cannot come to pass. Rome must burn.
Have you ever published a story, poem or essay online, only to have the venue fold and your work disappear?
It's not fun, but there is a good technique that can help you out.
I put together a quick video that shows how to find a saved copy of your work: youtu.be/v_Pym4yd528
We're now open for fiction, nonfiction and experimental submissions at Minor Literature[s] for the month of August.
For essays see details here:

Itβs fascinating how we can spot kindred spirits from centuries past through their art. I listened to Alkan for the first time today and already I know that heβs mon frΓ¨re, mon semblable (etc etc) infinitely more than Liszt, Schumann, Berlioz

04.08.2025 13:44 β π 36 π 19 π¬ 1 π 2There is no new work on ergot. this week.
Instead, check out something from our archive (www.ergot.press/authors) or read a story one of our contributors published at another venue.
Announcement for the writers among you: we're increasing our submissions word count to 10,000 words.
If you write dark fiction send it our way. Don't explain anything, just make things weird and make us deal with it. Ambiguity encouraged, definitive endings frowned upon.

27.07.2025 02:24 β π 91 π 22 π¬ 1 π 0Folks, we found it, we found cozy horror
30.07.2025 21:35 β π 55 π 7 π¬ 1 π 0A truth that cannot be captured by philosophy, by reason, by any form of knowledge that would seek to theorize it. The truth of the body in its most raw, unrestrained form: a body that writes itself into being only to find itself undone. You write. To stop is to cease being.
30.07.2025 19:35 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0There is no meaning in the text itself, no telos, no resolution. There is only the endlessness of language, slipping from one meaning into another, always just out of reach. And yet, in this slipping, in the rush of words that tear at your skin, there lingers a kind of truth.
30.07.2025 19:35 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0You write, as though each letter is an attempt to reconcile the irreconcilable, to stitch together the fragmented parts of a life that will never be whole. You write to touch the void, to experience the unbearable nearness of absence.
30.07.2025 19:35 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Kay Vaindal's got a new story out in ergot. and it's fucking class. One of the best at just throwing out some batshit scenario and letting it play out with no explanation.
Here's an omniscient baby in a cactus, roll with it.
I don't like this trend of people being afraid to experience (negative) emotions when consuming art.
Experiencing things outside of your own point of view makes life a lot more interesting, and is honestly necessary to understand the world and people around you.
Whoa, just got a huge acceptance... from myself :) Because there is no acceptance like self-acceptance, my friends.
