How many products have to “enshitify” before we question if it’s the system itself and not individual people that are responsible? How much of the environment has to be wrecked, how many people unhoused, how many jobless, how many without healthcare, before we realize the problem is capitalism?

Figure from Global Carbon Budget depicting the rise in CO2 emissions from 1990-2025

Global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel use are predicted to rise 1.1% in 2025, putting a record high 38.1 Gt of CO2 into the atmosphere. It has never been more clear that we can't continue to rely on the logic of capitalism and expect this problem to resolve itself.

Sometimes writing a story is so easy and sometimes it's really hard and I truly don't know why.

And you wouldn't believe which stories I just pooped out really fast versus those I labored over like a terrible alien pregnancy.

Anyway, this one is a hard one and I'm very tired.

A fraternity massacre births rewritten history, a supernatural entity, and a survivor obsessed with both. Two bog bodies ponder their star-crossed love. A chronically ill house consumes its unwilling, equally unwell tenant. A housewife discovers she's made of several million ticks—but only after they leak from her new nipple piercings.

The stories in Gore Poetics explore intimacy and annihilation through visceral, wet prose. Samir Sirk Morató makes a name for themself as a master of strange, erotic, and transgressive horror in this stunning debut collection.
