Had a great time chatting with Dr. Meredith Palmer & Elecia White on the Embedded podcast. The theme was conservation technology & we felt it was important to have the tech & ecology side represented.

4 wheel drive pickup with sensors and communications equipment for deploying on a sensor network site at a bush heritage reserve in australia

A recent maintenance trip to our main sensor network deployment site in Australia. It's a collaborative project with Bush Heritage and Monash University and we've been collecting data on the reserve since 2023. We're looking at how the ecosystem & soil respond over time after restoration works.

After Trump killed a report on nature, researchers push ahead with release Major report was designed to answer the public’s biggest questions on nature.

Looking forward to reading the US National Nature Assessment report and awed by the courage of the people involved that are trying to publish it, even after it had been killed.

A long-lost sound has returned to the great mountains of Yosemite National Park And it could have positive implications for wildlife around the world, say scientists.

Great news for amphibians and hopefully a turning point for this population that almost got wiped out by the frog fungus.

What a Marine Heat Wave Reveals About Our Warming Oceans An extreme heat wave off California’s coast seemed like an anomaly 10 years ago. But as the ocean warms, the catastrophe may be a glimpse of the future.

Climate change keeps throwing us more curveballs - well more like high, hard fastballs right at our head - and we don't pay enough attention to make the necessary changes. Once upon a time The Blob was a sci-fi film. Now it is a disaster in the sea. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/01/c...

Would anyone know if there was an ecological restoration starter pack floating around somewhere?

I created a #StarterPack for folks who work with technology in conservation and ecology. This is not an exhaustive list so please let me know if I forgot anyone or if you would like to be included! I am excited for this community to grow here! @wildlabsnet.bsky.social

A small but mighty list of voices in fisheries conservation, from all sides of the conversation. Add your name please if I missed you and you’d like to be added.

Wildlife monitoring technologies used to intimidate and spy on women, study finds Camera traps and drones deployed by government authorities to monitor a forest in India are infringing on the privacy and rights of local women.

It’s very disappointing to hear this. The sad thing about a lot of conservation technology is that they can also be used for human surveillance just as much as wildlife monitoring.

Hmmm…I’m just following all the ecology starter packs I see. Feed be damned, I’ll filter the firehose later!

We have a starter pack for scientists using camera traps! 📸 If you work with camera trap data in any way, either collecting data, running ecological models, training CV/ML models, let me know I’ll add you to this list 🎉 go.bsky.app/CbJkbVw
