This year's measurement of Kebnekaise's southern peak by @tarfalaresstation.bsky.social shows that the peak has decreased by 1.5 metres compared to last year. This is the seventh year in a row that Kebnekaise´s southern peak is lower than the northern peak. #Climate #Arctic

Last chance to submit your abstract to our OSM26 session on northern overturning and watermass transformation. Looking forward to seeing your work 🌊
Newly published study led by @leonchafik.bsky.social finds that anomalies in temperature and salinity that originate in the midlatitude North Atlantic can affect the #AMOC in the Nordic Seas up to a decade later.❗️ 🌊

A huge thank you to everyone that joined us at the first day of the re-launch & 75th Anniversary of the journal #Tellus! 🫶
Brilliant presentations, and we are more than excited for what day two will bring tomorrow. 🌍

The worldview of sea surface temperatures really does put into perspective how extreme the anomalous warmth is off the coast of Ireland.
It's the biggest & most intense marine heatwave on the planet, some >5°C above normal. Enhanced rainfall & hotter heatwaves a possible impact.
The NOAA science seminars continue tomorrow with a verrry relevant talk on "The Social Value of Forecasting Hurricanes" by Renato Molina. Unsurprisingly, he finds that public investments in hurricane forecasts pay for themselves many times over in reduced losses.

Today at EGU 2025, AGU met up with @leonchafik.bsky.social, Editor of @jgroceans.bsky.social, Researcher at Stockholm University, Bolin Centre for Climate Research
Here is our #SciCon Chat:
Q:Describe what you do in 25 words.
A:I study how ocean currents behave, & the health of ocean circulation.
AMOC in density space, heat and freshwater transports, and 2D velocity fields at 26N have been updated to February 2023. They are freely available on our website at rapid.ac.uk
At #EGU25 next week, Editors Lars Umlauf and Léon Chafik will be available for 15-minute meetings to share advice on publishing in JGR: Oceans!
Bring your questions, abstract, poster, or elevator pitch!

Unlikely before 2100—but the risks are real 🚨
We find Southern Ocean winds keep this vital ocean "heat engine" running, even under extreme #climatechange. But the Pacific holds a surprise…
