@jon.henshaw.me got tired of his coffee and tea getting cold, so he tested using a self-heated mug and a mug warmer. He found that one of them was superior, and it's now what he uses every day to keep his hot drinks hot.

I've been using WebP for featured images for a while, but I haven't tried AVIF. In theory, it should also support AVIF: make.wordpress.org/core/2024/02...
Unless you're specifically referring to which Open Graph image formats social platforms support, in which case, AVIF might have issues for sure.
Correction since Bluesky won’t allow me to edit posts like I can on Mastodon:
Improved HDR and SDR interoperability will be part of the 4th edition, which they expect to happen relatively quickly, and better compression and parallel encoding/decoding will likely happen in the 5th edition.
@programmax.net says the new PNG spec has:
• HDR support that is also future-proofed.
• Animated PNGs (official)
• EXIF data support (official)
And the 4th edition will include:
• Better compression
• Parallel encoding/decoding
• Improved HDR and SDR interoperability

After two decades of stagnation with the PNG image standard, it's back with a new version to rival the innovations made by WebP and AVIF.

25.06.2025 00:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I've used @yoast.com for well over a decade, and it continues to play a critical role in how I technically optimize my sites for search engines. While I don't use or need all of its features, it still provides the ones I need most.

A pleasant surprise that came with the FAIR initiative is the ability to bypass Gravatar and upload and serve profile images directly from your WordPress site. 🙌

That reminds me of my KISSmetrics trial account. After the second week, we were pulled into a class action lawsuit due to something illegal they were doing with their tracking. They wouldn't indemnify us, and it cost us a lot of money. We made t-shirts with this logo to remind us of him and Hiten.

I agree, which is why the article mentions that the AI Team's purpose isn't to add "AI" features to WordPress, but to accelerate Core and plugin development instead. Of course, vibe coding is a whole other can of worms.
