These figures have several limitations, and looking at them alone is NOT sufficient to make good decisions. However, this can be a useful exercise, and it provides an example of how Open Philanthropy sometimes looks at"Importance" and "Neglectedness" in a field.

Diseases vary 10X+ in how many resources are devoted to developing cures and vaccines, relative to the health harms they cause! This can shed light on how an impact-driven science donor could prioritize their giving in fields such as vaccine R&D. 🧵
