There’s a vertical 6-segmented one in Montreal! I can’t find it on maps tho.
A few of us have some exports from AW working in vrchat! I personally still haven’t gotten sign commands to work yet tho. I know what I need to do and I’ve been kinda delaying it for other VR projects. You can also check out deltaworlds, which is a free copy hosted by a furry
Yesssss it's so nice to turn the brain off in that kinda way, like knowing it's not gonna be absolutely awful because the OG composition is rly good. I wanna do moooore of those.
what can i say i love 2 deescalate
Loving the movie studies you've been putting out! Great chance to practice value n stuff
Whenever I hear the phase "creative cloud" I ALWAYS hear it in CEO Shantanu Narayen's voice where he's being an absolute clown in this disastrous Australia press conference. CC was the "big new thing" at the time and people were already sensing that something fishy was going on.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn, some stellar mixed media going on here :O wow
2020: Google really sucks now, time to append with "site:reddit.com"
2025:
these muscular forms are phenooooomenal. I love super unusual angles like this
HECKKK thanks man!! This is kinda super niche stuff and I never know who might be interested. building a parser for the childhood memories a bunch of us is doin crazy things tho. I might actually be able to import douglas house v1 from back then :O MOST of my doodles were in 3d before drawing
cloooooose
cheers!
thx byte! It's been fun swinging by every now and then in vr :3
thanx dood!
thanks man :33
thanks rye!
I love these crazy blocky shapes omg
this is all built from local files I've had for years. I never have to touch their servers 👌 It's all about bizarre file formats and automating highly repetitive processes
Honestly yeah! It's kind of like cities skylines without the rules, and the idea was that if you built the digital environment, people would go there, and this was true, with the right initial conditions :D pretty much all of us also played simcity/cities skylines games.
oh hey it's also my bday today so my present is getting to talk about this stuff I find to be interesting :3
The company (AWI) also changed our passwords and deleted our recovery emails, once they found out we were looking to move. All of us were banned from the platform in 2024. That's the kind of company they are, now.
The enshiffifying changes that were implemented: in-game credits that must be topped-up monthly, and EVERYTHING uses them now. Wanna build for 24 hours? gotta pay! In 2000, their product technically had more basic features than now!
Basically the company failed to advertise their biggest killer app when it was time and instead focused on B2B sales until those dried up 10 years later, then they started enshittifying the platform with rent-seeking measures. I wouldn't be surprised if they started deleting buildings eventually.
I've got two worlds in there so far! Each one is a different experiment :D What's great is that the size of the data can be like 50 MB for a world which is several square kilometers of nonlinear explorable area
I see them! 2326S 10000W good to know :3
also your use of sign3 as a chairback in 2000 👌 primo idea, the options were so limited!
This is fantastic :3 I totally missed this post too! I’m replying here to take note of it. Do you remember the coords?
WHOAAA that’s so cool! I actually have your stuff saved on my computer :D I still need to make a means of translating the sign commands into Unity assets. I could theoretically print your whole town into VRC >:3 the latest backup I have is from 2021 before AW closed their SDK.
Yeah it’s funny that, to this day, the biggest thing Activeworlds is known for is a Vinesauce video made of it, 6 years after we stopped building there, showing an obscure private world no one would have visited even when AW had more users xD
These screenshots are of such an unbelievably small part of the entire world I can't begin to emphasize (wouldn't even be a single pixel in the full map), yet even this part would take hours to explore in VRC. Even this old google maps screenshot (tiny red dot = images above) is waaaay zoomed in.
