The greedy tyrant—desperate to intimidate, ravenous for worship—put his face everywhere.
To ensure no one could escape his sour gaze—not even in the wilderness—he placed it on the annual national parks passes. One day they would serve as poignant relics of a nation under siege.
If anything, the last month has reaffirmed how much I love living in Portland.
I read this appeal was for the first ruling only and they haven’t appealed the second so does that mean they still can’t be deployed at this stage?
These people are terrified of everything!
Seriously, at this point the circling helicopters are just performing some kind of psychological warfare. There’s really nothing to warrant them doing this every night, plus they must cost (waste) so much money to operate like this.
Kristi Noem referred to Portland/Oregon’s leadership as “a pack of pansies” on Fox. I guess anyone that thought she was here today to make a good faith assessment of the reality on the ground was mistaken.
He sees it with his own eyes. He’s not wrong, but man that’s depressing! Propaganda is not new obviously and manufacturing consent has always been a thing but this past week the stark disconnect between the admins narrative (amplified via media) and life on the ground in Portland has been jarring.
The most prominent tech figures seem deeply invested in destabilising a broad sense of reality. My dad said to me the other day with algorithms tailoring social and news media so individually and AI content many can’t distinguish as fake he feels like he can’t believe anything unless…
The numbers do fluctuate, some days there’s a small handful and occasionally a couple of hundred but they’re protesting peacefully. I drove past earlier and agents were shooting tear gas and pepper balls from the roof, the helicopters were circling. It’s totally disproportionate aggression.
There’s one large drone I’ve spotted twice circling over the Southwest Waterfront and surrounding neighbourhoods in conjunction with the helicopters. It was out last Saturday and last night.
It’s really hard to narrow it down to who is the most moronic person in this current administration, but wow, Pete Hegseth is really up there!
This ICE Black Hawk Helicopter has spent the last two nights circling above the neighbourhood - there were multiple drones last night too. There’s a larger protest outside today, maybe a couple of hundred people but the helicopter seems excessive.
Recent sketch for a future large painting. Have several others in
progress. They’re a good meditation for reflecting and processing these times.
Lots of online discourse around “war ravaged” Portland, there’s a tendency to conflate the tiny protest down at the ICE building & homelessness. It’s disturbing that Portland’s most vulnerable get dehumanised with labels like “zombie” & some think using the military to “deal with them” is justified.
It’s wild. I live within 2 minutes of the ICE facility in question and pass it almost daily. The South Waterfront, especially that section on Macadam is really out of the way so this disconnect in narrative vs reality is so blaring for anyone living here.
This whole scenario is so delusional and not based on any type of reality on the ground.
Growing up in New Zealand, we didn’t grow up with a broad gun culture but also believed that guns were really inaccessible. That was obviously untrue as proven by the Christchurch mass shooting and the way we processed, grieved and reacted collectively really threw my wife who is American.
Trump thinks the protests in Portland have been going continuously for 5 years 🤦🏻♂️
It feels part and parcel with their narcissism to want to live forever.
Yeah, “Anti-American” is so coded for said anything bad about their supreme leader and I can’t think of anything more Anti-American than that!
We finished up our daughter’s last 2 weeks of Summer break doing day trips around Oregon. It’s been so great! We did Enchanted Forest near Salem, Mitchell Point Tunnel and Hood River, the train ride between Garibaldi and Rockaway and got a cabin for a night in Astoria.
The irony of “anti-Americanism” as a metric for deciding visa status is it could be easily argued that Trump and his movement hate America more than anyone. Project 2025 was always the blueprint for the systematic dismantling and breaking of the US.
My 10 week old son is such a joy, he rarely cries when he wakes up, always greets me with smiles and little chuckles. He loves to fall asleep on my shoulder or as my step mum calls it, “cuddle trap” me 😀. We were so nervous about having a 2nd kid but it’s been the absolute best so far!
My wife pointed out today that this is the perfect moment for all the Karen’s to rise up, seize this moment and film themselves accosting ICE agents. Already some great videos popping up online.
I do miss those sometimes!
Jay Dee’s beat on Bullshit and Bootie Brown’s beat on Pharcyde make for my favourite opening two tracks on any album ever!
At this point it almost feels redundant to say, you can’t take anything this administration says at face value, it’s all just doublespeak. Everything’s just justification and projection.
‘Anti-Americanism” as a gauge for immigration eligibility obviously just means whether you’ve ever been critical of Trump on your social media. Labelling applicants as terrorist sympathisers and antisemites most likely means if you’ve ever said anything remotely critical about Gaza.
We need to mock them relentlessly at the very least!
