If the government really is worried about Iranian sleeper cells, then it was probably a mistake to systematically reorient the majority of US counterterror resources toward arresting immigrant grandmothers and five-year-olds in bunny hats

‘I wish I could push ChatGPT off a cliff’: professors scramble to save critical thinking in an age of AI As AI has upended the way students learn, academics worry about the future of the humanities - and society at large

I'm one of many professors quoted in this report from Alice Speri. I really appreciate The Guardian taking an angle which has basically eluded every other major outlet.

Pixar has had movies subjects like: Death & grieving. Depression, anxiety & emotional regulation. Family trauma. Childhood ending. The collapse of reality as you knew it. And suddenly just the existence of LGBTQ+ people in a movie is too hard for kids to deal with? Ok.

Screenshot of a Twitter post I found on that reads: there was a spring in second grade where every single recess I would walk out to the most remote part of the playground, “die” dramatically, and lie motionless for the entire 20 minutes. I was trying to trick a Turkey vulture into coming down to eat me so I could grab it as a pet.

He had grown up in a country run by politicians who sent the pilots to man the bombers to kill the babies to make the world safe for children to grow up in.

What do you call the fallacy that says,

"We must have zero tolerance for rule-breaking, otherwise the system will collapse. In order to enforce this, our agents of course must be allowed to break the rules."

Because it seems like the whole country runs on this now

After I had a cardiac arrest in 2021, this was my #1 reason for getting an Apple Watch and it has given me peace of mind many times over the years.

Gratitude to editor Roberta Beary for including my haibun “Body Work” in the latest Modern Haiku 🎻

"Body Work

I am a table. This woman loves the table. Her octopus hands. She ensures that nothing heavy is placed on me. Every knot is polished into yes with the scent of a ripe orange grove. The initials of old lovers wilt like a willow no one owns.

resting pulse a thicket of swaying sea grass

Her tentacles bend and shape me into something new. Curved ribs. Scrolled neck. Arched back. No longer a table, I pluck what I learned of her water sounds. And float in her ink cloud as the tides pull me under.
