I wanted to honor his memory in a mosaic portrait as my small part in continuing to create awareness and empathy for those suffering from mental illness and addiction.

As a small child living across the street from the Fisherman’s Statue monument on the boulevard, I would often see Floyd. My mother was always kind to him, modeling for us empathy during a time when mental illness and addiction was highly stigmatized.

He was often seen on Stacey Boulevard with his clamming equipment. Floyd Floyd not only represented the hard scrabble working community of Gloucester, he also was a sad reminder of the homeless, mentally ill and disenfranchised.

Floyd Morris, aka Floyd the Clamdigger, was an icon of Gloucester, Massachusetts during the 1960s-70s. 30h x 27w” stained glass mosaic on recycled styrofoam.

This reflects the boundaries of human relationships, where intimacy can can also contain feelings of aversion and hostility. 21h x 7w x 3D”. Mixed media wall sculpture diptych; 1 mm clear glass rods, resin, tinted thin set on ceramic substrate.

Boundaries was inspired by a metaphor used by Freud and Arthur Schopenhauer. The Porcupine Dilemma describes a situation in which a group of porcupines try to move closer together one to keep from freezing yet cannot due to their spines.

The white stone is travertine marble and I’ve also embedded sea spines into the mosaic.

New mosaic work. Turbulence measures 12h x 16w”. Tesserae includes Italian smalti, gold and copper smalti, stone, slate and copper verdigri.

I am honored to have these three mosaics selected by the Cape Cod Cultural Center’s 2025 Botanica Artists and Collectors Dinner. Twenty-five artists were chosen from 600 applications. The dinner will take place at the end of May.

This sculpture was inspired by the serotonin molecule. Its surface design was inspired by gut flora. With this piece, I am exploring the theory of how gut health influences mental wellbeing.
