As the Olympics wrap up in Milano-Cortina, us winter-minded folks are already looking forward to the 2030 games in the French Alps. In 1919 some lucky American soldiers went on leave to Chamonix, where they enjoyed skiing and snowball fights! Chamonix would host the Olympics four years later in 1924

More Gettysburg today, a hike in a less traveled area of the battlefield. Walking the ground like this connects the books and stories to the physical world, and I always leave with a renewed vigor to learn more. Having awesome people to share it with makes it all the better. Happy New Year!

City and county workers pass by the names of Ramsey County war dead every day - Memorial Hall in Saint Paul City Hall / Ramsey County Courthouse was dedicated to them, the names are inscribed in marble in this lovely art deco building.
