Every year thousands of young horses are trucked from desolate 🇨🇦 feedlots, crammed into wooden crates @ the Winnipeg and Edmonton airports & flown to Japan, where they are slaughtered for their meat.

Sept 7/'25 Three horses fall as plane lands in Japan. Although a few were born in 2023, most of the horses on this flight were born in 2024 and all were females.

The CHDC has recently learned that, in addition to Korean Air Cargo, another carrier has begun facilitating the transport of live horses to Japan for slaughter.

Canada’s slaughter horse industry lacks transparency - Manitoba Co-operator Horse slaughter is a fraught issue right now in the Canadian livestock sphere. The author writes that, while it has a role, traceability, transparency and humane handling must be in play.

The horses pictured in the video below were on that flight

↓ Live Horse Exports for Slaughter – 1,389 horses, DOWN 37.8%

↑ US Horse Imports for Slaughter – 1,403 horses, UP 13.5%

↓ Horse Meat Exports – 666 metric tonnes, DOWN 15.5%

During the aircraft loading process, one crate was returned to the holding building due to 2 horses sitting while in the crate. The March 3 flight included a stop in Anchorage - one horse was found down in a crate after take-off.
