Flyer for an event hosted by the Indiana University East Asian Studies Center. The title of the event is: Taiwan Studies Initiative: Progressive Family Law as an Anticolonial Strategy Date: August 28th Time: 1:30 pm ET Location: GISB 2067 The text of the flyer reads: This talk, based on Dr. Chenโs book project, challenges conventional narratives by examining Japan-ruled Taiwan (1895โ1945), arguing that progressive family law can function as a mode of anti-colonial resistance. The project concludes that family law need not be reactionary, a contention underscored by Taiwanโs 2019 legalization of same-sex marriage, which embodies a still vibrant and enduring progressive nationalism.
Join us for a talk by Dr. Yun-Ru Chen, Associate Professor of Law at National Taiwan University.
