Although I’ve seen photos of the displays, I got my first actual look at the exhibit last week, and it was quite humbling to walk into that very prestigious museum and see my name on the walls, along with the photos I’d researched and the history I’d written!

The great Thomas Moran painted this, the “Chasm of the Colorado," in 1874, after touring the area with Major John Wesley Powell a couple of years before. Shortly after its completion, the American Congress bought the painting for the spectacular sum of $10,000.

Passed these interesting crags today in southern Nevada. A mile or so farther a road headed toward them called Christmas Tree Pass Road, and that big rock does look like a tilting Christmas tree!
