Not a single thing we were told about #COVID turned out to be correct. A long thread 🧵
Really looking forward to this and having my smoke and ash loops be part of the evening

Law enforcement is state violence. And yes, ICE is out of control.
You have more in common with the average Iranian citizen than you do with the people that run this country
attempting to describe the vibes of the moment. have yet to do better than: "imagine watching a documentary reenacting the burning of the Library of Alexandria set to the soundtrack of 'Yakety Sax'"
What happened in Minnesota is a direct consequence of the violent way that Trump talks about his political opponents.
The violence is coming from the guys in uniforms with guns. You attack people, people will defend themselves.
you mean violence from ICE, the National Guard, and Border Patrol, right? because that’s the violence we’re seeing right now
We all talk about the trauma of the pandemic as the result of “lockdowns” and public health restrictions.
But, for a lot of people, the deepest hurt came from societal abandonment.
Rugged individualism and “you do you” mentality are accelerating our decline.
Covid is a perfect example. The virus is airborne. Vulnerable people can’t choose not to breathe air.
We all share the air & if we cared about the quality of that air? We could beat the virus.
Autism is not a disease.
So, I read smart people.
There is a playbook for this next chapter.

“The fires are a reminder that a planet decimated by human greed and indulgence doesn’t care about your net worth. You can’t speak to the weather’s manager. Mother Nature has no concierge. Your investment portfolio will not halt an inferno. A college degree won’t tame the blaze.”
This edition of my newsletter includes mutual aid efforts to support and uplift, preparedness resources (for us all), some must-reads, and some thoughts about how we process disaster and look after each other amid disaster. (Yes, I am on a break, but this felt important)

There is some very good concrete advice here around surveillance, and some head-scratching advice that I am surprised to see in a piece explicitly talking about authoritarianism.
Know who you are, yes, but also know who THEY are.
Don't bond with them over dogs.
Don't make alliances with them.
the three films of mine in this ultra dogme program all wrestle with ways film and abstraction can record/navigate/facilitate relationships—with “nature”, grief, histories, spaces
thank you! and thanks for coming to that show!
