Law enforcement is state violence. And yes, ICE is out of control.

attempting to describe the vibes of the moment. have yet to do better than: "imagine watching a documentary reenacting the burning of the Library of Alexandria set to the soundtrack of 'Yakety Sax'"

What happened in Minnesota is a direct consequence of the violent way that Trump talks about his political opponents.

The violence is coming from the guys in uniforms with guns. You attack people, people will defend themselves.

you mean violence from ICE, the National Guard, and Border Patrol, right? because that’s the violence we’re seeing right now

We all talk about the trauma of the pandemic as the result of “lockdowns” and public health restrictions.

But, for a lot of people, the deepest hurt came from societal abandonment.

Rugged individualism and “you do you” mentality are accelerating our decline.

Covid is a perfect example. The virus is airborne. Vulnerable people can’t choose not to breathe air.

We all share the air & if we cared about the quality of that air? We could beat the virus.

So, I read smart people.

There is a playbook for this next chapter.

I believe we can do this. It won’t be easy, but the map is there.

Featuring resources & wisdom from Dr. Erica Cheoweth, @prisonculture.bsky.social @mskellymhayes.bsky.social, @jaclynf.bsky.social & more.

Have any of you made the switch from Photoshop to another [less pricey, non-subscription] Mac-based photo editing system that you really like?

Any that aren’t GIMP, which I’m finding to be a pain to switch to? Should I stick it out with GIMP?

Scorched Earth The precarity of living on a burning planet.

“The fires are a reminder that a planet decimated by human greed and indulgence doesn’t care about your net worth. You can’t speak to the weather’s manager. Mother Nature has no concierge. Your investment portfolio will not halt an inferno. A college degree won’t tame the blaze.”

Fire-Related Mutual Aid Efforts to Support and Some Must-Reads Kindness is essential in these times, and it will continue to be.

This edition of my newsletter includes mutual aid efforts to support and uplift, preparedness resources (for us all), some must-reads, and some thoughts about how we process disaster and look after each other amid disaster. (Yes, I am on a break, but this felt important)

"No politics" rewards conservative ideologies. Anything left wing or progressive is seen as 'political' because it goes against the status quo, whereas the invisible politics of the status quo is taken for granted as a state of nature. Only conservatives can speak freely in that environment

okay, we're starting with this

Step 1. call your own rep if you haven't already!

Step 2. sign this (cis women only please! cis guys, you can help by boosting)

Step 3. much depends on the success and reach of step 2; lots of options if this blows up

There is some very good concrete advice here around surveillance, and some head-scratching advice that I am surprised to see in a piece explicitly talking about authoritarianism.

Know who you are, yes, but also know who THEY are.

Don't bond with them over dogs.

Don't make alliances with them.
