Rob now wants to help us have the same level of impact on CDR. He'll be advising us on the development of the Absolute Carbon Standard (ACS), and our approach to deploying it globally.

Building a scalable and accountable carbon removal industry requires early demand. Learnings from real deployments are the best way to drive down MRV uncertainty and develop new innovations.

That's why I'm excited to join the CDR Demand session at Carbon Unbound East Coast, May 20-21 in NYC.

Vesta has spent more than a decade developing world-class mCDR MRV capabilities, making them the perfect partners for this milestone. We’re looking forward to showing more about what we’ve built together in the near future.

At @absoluteclimate.bsky.social, we apply universal assessment criteria to all projects — meaning we hold an mCDR approach to the same standard as BiCRS or DAC. We can remove uncertainty about whether a mCDR project has been scoped properly, or if the monitoring requirements will hold up over time.

This is a big one for us! We’re partnering with Vesta to apply the Absolute Carbon Standard to marine CDR for the first time.

mCDR is often treated as a 2nd class citizen, because of the challenge of connecting project claims to atmospheric impacts. We want to fix this.

Building the standards and certification processes needed for gigaton-scale CDR is complex, and there won’t be a single “right” answer. But having multiple approaches in the market increases the chances that we’ll land on solutions that actually help CDR scale.

CDR needs an accounting system that ensures scale-up aligns with climate goals. One-size-fits-all won’t cut it. That’s why Absolute Climate uses emissions flux models—giving buyers a clear, apples-to-apples way to compare projects.

Really appreciate this opinion piece by Freya, Zeke, and Kata. I totally agree. “What is CDR” is the wrong question. The real question is: Does a project deliver the right climate impact?
