Protests Erupt Across US At Hospitals Complying With Trumps Unlawful Under-19 Trans Ban EO Demonstrators argue that hospitals should stand as a bulwark against Trump and should care for all of their patients, rather than comply without a fight.

1. Protests have erupted at multiple hospitals across the United States that have decided to comply with Trump's executive order banning trans care under 19.

Now, a lawsuit challenges that EO.

Writer Mira Lazine writes about the importance of the protests.

β€œwhen you start to take down resources like this, you start to construct a knowledge sphere that doesn’t acknowledge that environmental or climate injustices exist”. 100% this.

Thank goodness for all the folks out there doing the critical work to preserve climate and EJ data.

β€˜Gender Ideology’ Ban is Already Harming Health, Experts Say Documents purged from government websites include guidelines for safe contraception and information on racial inequities in health care.

The CDC purged terms such as β€œtransgender,” β€œL.G.B.T.” and β€œpregnant person,” from its website to comply with an executive order. Intense backlash prompted the reinstatement of some resources. But guidelines for safe contraception and information on racial inequities in health care remain missing.

Give Communities Control of Carbon Removal To keep polluters from profiting from the technology, we need public ownership.

A good time to revisit this 2022 article on a vision for public carbon removal. This is how we’ll unlock the true potential of CDR, which is to repair the climate and past harms

Coming out of #AGU24 today thinking about path dependency and CDR.

Even though emissions reduction and CDR are viewed separately at the policy level, from the global carbon cycle pov, not only do we need both, but faster emissions reduction will make CDR *more effective*.

Not surprised it’s coming from this guy. But unfortunately anti-China rhetoric runs across party lines. E.g. framing policies in terms of national security to get bipartisan support might seem pragmatic but actually hurts Asian communities by amplifying the idea that Chinese people are a threat.

Our new paper (N=6,132, across 63 countries) suggests that focusing on subtle terminology in climate messaging is not an effective use of resources.

So, we're now looking at 1.9C warming by 2100 even in an optimistic scenario.

And, we're on track for a future where the world might need hundreds of Gt of CDR to claw our way back from a high overshoot. I'd like to avoid that please and thank you.

Crediting challenges when carbon removal comes with avoided emissions – CarbonPlan Some carbon removal projects also result in avoided emissions. This is good for the climate, but can pose challenges for individual projects that are trying to earn carbon removal credits.

Projects that aim to remove carbon by tweaking existing industrial processes can end up avoiding some emissions as well. That’s a good thing for the climate β€” but it can pose challenges when trying to support these projects through the sale of carbon removal credits.
