This post sent from what I imagine was 8:30am PT (assuming Kalinowski is on the West Coast) is yet another bright red warning flag at the convergence of several areas where red flags are already littering the landscape: the Trump administration, war, domestic surveillance, AI …

How SCOTUS Manipulated Its Docket to Hide an Anti-LGBTQ+ Ruling From the Spotlight Once again, the conservative justices stop blue states from protecting LGBTQ+ rights.

@jaywillis.net Thank you for including and citing my latest @slate.com in @ballsandstrikes.org. The more people know, the harder it will be to do those things. #Resistance. slate.com/news-and-pol...

He's putting up record job losses, driving the country into a war he can't even explain, and was credibly accused of raping a teenager in the Epstein files released yesterday - so of course it's time to try and ruin more trans people's lives

The justices had ample opportunity to decide this issue the right way. Instead they sneaked in a slapdash ruling on the shadow docket. slate.trib.al/jHCHHvT

This happened on Monday night on the shadow docket. It proved my longer article's argument about using "constitutional opportunism" to attack LGBTQ rights (link in comments). Thank you, Mark @mjsdc.bsky.social, for amazing edits.

New study in Lancet eClinical Medicine (N=20,358) found that mental healthcare utilization initially increases (consistent with assessment requirements under guidelines), then drops substantially, following gender-affirming medical care. #transgender #mentalhealth #medicine

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

This is a horrifying and alarming firing, yet more evidence, as I have written repeatedly, that the Washington Post no longer serves the community in its name.

High Court Record Supports Trump’s Moves to Erase CA Trans Youth Opinion: Southwestern Law professor Hila Keren says the Trump administration's slashing of California education grants based on the state's moves supporting trans youth unconstitutional, but the US Su...

My Bloomberg Law insight on how the administration censors California, trying to erase any mention of gender identity and trans students from sex education, and does so while emboldened by SCOTUS' recent decisions.

The Supreme Court Is Being Tested on Whether Parental Rights Apply Equally in Blue and Red States On Tuesday, we saw some of the earliest fallout from the Supreme Court's decision earlier this summer in United States v. Skrmetti.

I am so sorry, but this is how bad it is, and writing about it as it happens is one way to resist, so I did (while citing @mjsdc.bsky.social). This is constitutional rights for me and not for thee! slate.com/news-and-pol...

The Blue-State Hospitals Carrying Out Trump’s Anti-Trans Agenda In states where gender-affirming care remains legal, some hospitals have nonetheless stopped providing it. What gives?

Contrary to Trump’s grotesque, self-congratulatory press releases, he has not ended gender-affirming care for young people; rather, as the health care workers I spoke to this week made clear, hospital management, boards, and their legal advisers have ended it for him. My new story:

I included the movie as a form of resistance, which I propose against "Constitutional Opportunism" - the way SCOTUS (with help from NYT... as you show) intentionally attacks LGBTQ+ equality. Draft: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Suing Trump Isn't Enough: Blue State AGs Must Enforce State Laws Protecting Trans People Private entities overcomplying with Trump executive orders and targeting transgender people must not be given free passes to do so by blue states.

1. State AGs have sued Trump for intimidating providers from providing trans care.

Meanwhile, institutions are dropping trans people left and right out of fear of Trump.

Suing Trump isn't enough. State AGs MUST enforce equality laws against cowardly orgs.

New baby paper submitted! Download it, please. "Constitutional Opportunism" tells how the Supreme Court takes an active part in the conservative attack on LGBTQ people. Hope student editors see the urgency because we have conversion therapy and participation in sports on the docket for next term.

With plenty of moving testimonials and charming talking heads, Heightened Scrutiny draws damning lines between the “just asking questions” opinion pieces published in respected mainstream media publications like The Atlantic and the New York Times and the legal arguments made in our judicial system. The damaging rhetoric in these outlets is directly and immediately echoed by lawyers, judges, and “experts” brought into court—and because of how clicky transphobic stories have historically been, this vicious cycle has recently ramped up. Add in the targeted bigotry of the increasingly radical right, and the legal, cultural, and medical fight for acceptance now waged by trans folks has gotten all the tougher as public awareness has grown.

Heightened Scrutiny, a very good doc about the Supreme Court case that was just ruled on, does an impeccable and infuriating job laying out just how culpable the NYT and Atlantic are for the nation’s transphobia www.avclub.com/sundance-202...
