In this ramp here, you see the "actual" and "target" APCA contrast ratios. Target is where I want them and Actual is the closest contrast I could get. A light color will have a negative contrast, meaning light color on top of black background. Dark has positive contrast, on white background.

Think I actually explained the logic in my previous reply. If you look how the ramps here are constructed between positive and negative contrasts (light, dark tones), that’s what you’re aiming for.

color-L100 needs to have same ratio vs black as color-D100 has against white. That enables mode swap.

Thanks! Yes, that’s the intent with symmetrical ramps. They have a midpoint where you can literally swap from light mode to dark mode and hit the same APCA contrast ratios.

The ramps show WCAG ratios, because those are standard today. But if you test out their APCA ratios, they’ll hit same values.

Ouch, 8 to 14, that's a huge gap.

It's an absolute coin toss, never know if you're going to get a petite or statuesque Norwegian woman. I can't imagine the headaches Norwegian clothing stores go through in deciding where the "Petite" section ends and the "Tall" begins.
