My 14-yo-son has recreated the climax of Back to the Future in gingerbread and I thought you should know.

A Tribute to an Oracle, Alice Wong Alice had the ability to look to the future and a world where laws and attitudes did not keep disabled people poor, pitied, and isolated.

If you're interested, this tribute to Alice Wong was written by one of the people who knew her best

Definition-habitual lying, untruthfulness, a constant pattern of lying.

Example-Trump and RFK Jr. thrive on mendacity, not facts.

The Word of the Day is…mendacity

“We are told by leaders that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes.”

Incredible speech by Violet Affleck who warned about the ongoing dangers of COVID & Long Covid, & advocated for masks and clean air at the UN today!

I always loved when Gary Sinise comes in and saves the day. It’s such a great example of the hundreds upon hundreds of people who all have their part to contribute in (any) historic event. That we as the public maybe -but rarely- hear about in hindsight.

I think one of the better, more subtle tributes to Robert Redford's life is the string of utterly iconic female co-stars who've come forward to eulogize him; each of them take-no-shit types like Fonda and Streisand, and every one of them without a single bad thing to say. A model for male behavior

I’m enjoying threads and all the Gilded Age posts. They’re helping me keep my sanity at this point.

A child with cerebral palsy suffering from malnutrition is as noteworthy as a non-disabled kid suffering from malnutrition. Shame on this ableist move.

My sympathies are with the everyone involved in this piece who wanted to run the photos.

I watch for Eddie. He always knew Frasier was full of it.

Thoroughly enjoyed Jurassic World! Had some good set pieces and lots of Big Dinos going chomp chomp. Couldn’t ask for more really. Had a good audience too!

Watching Squid Games after The Bear is probably not best for my anxiety. lol. It’s kinda fitting these shows are so popular in this moment in time. Gonna switch to Sunday Morning to calm my nerves. Need that soothing trumpet into.

Happy “Back It Up, Terry!” Day to all who celebrate. And remember friends, keep your wheelchair out of the path of fireworks

Every time I posted about how much my insurance was through the Exchange, people would say, “what are you talking about? I’m only paying $33 a month.”

Those people are about to find out they were on Medicaid.

Me too. I hate it so much. It makes all our pets so anxious. And we just had an arsonist here setting fires last week. Thankfully they caught him, but I’m surprised our county didn’t ban them this year because of it.

Not modern! Rotisserie chicken is one of the great ancient conveniences! Romans had them! Courtiers at Versailles ordered them!

When I met Ryan Coogler several years ago, we were standing in a group of people chatting, when a woman with visible hearing aids walked up, and he casually began to sign the whole conversation so she could participate. She mouthed “thank you”. He nodded and just kept doing his thing.

Disabled people and people who have been attacked by cops both know that when the law wants to, it can and will gleefully go "what's your point? Why are you bringing up that completely different thing?" to make it impossible to actually enforce on itself.

The thing is, there is absolutely precedent for this:

The ADA. The Americans with Disabilities Act damn near requires you personally act to get it enforced.

It basically only gets enforced if someone with enough resources can fight for it to be applied in their case.

the Lander Zohran double interviews are incredible, this is next level politics, they have the Jewish guy affirm his commitment to muslim NYers constantly while the muslim guy does the same for Jewish NYers, whoever is planning the media strategy is a HOFer

An addled president is shredding the Constitution to usher in white nationalism and fascism while destroying the economy and our health care, so if you’re going to write an alarmist op-ed because a mayoral candidate might open five (5) city-run grocery stores, you can kindly get bent.

I read this and thought: wow that sounds so nice! I’ve been meaning to call and schedule a massage (it’s been years). I should probably get on that.

Next: why the left after winning a decisive victory must engage in bipartisanship with the ideas that lost!

nyt op-ed: we cannot normalize the left’s brazen attempt to win voters by talking to them

And I think the main thing this class doesn't get right now is that the left feels a greater urgency to fight the Democratic establishment than it does the Republicans because it can't fight the latter with the former as it currently stands

NY Democratic machine genuinely befuddled after the charismatic, talented person with good ideas defeated the sex pest fuck-up with name recognition

Something the Mamdani win demonstrates is the extent to which the reigning cadre of ancient, establishment, centrist Dems think it’s more important to be on good terms with their GOP colleagues than it is to represent their own voters, and how thoroughly sick of this literally everyone is.
