Libby Hill was named for Luther Libby, a Richmond merchant. He had a large warehouse in Shockoe, which was seized by the CSA for a prison for Union officers. He owned slaves in his Church Hill home, and placed an ad in the Richmond Dispatch in 1862 for a 14 year old runaway female slave.

The Lee statue was originally built to be installed in Libby Park. The soldiers and sailors obelisk was substituted in Libby when plans were changed to move Lee to Monument Ave. (Obelisk subsequently removed).

I walked into my favorite RVA brewery the other day and 8 of the 10 beers offered were IPAs. I mean, isn’t one plenty? I like pilsners but I don’t expect a brewery to offer more than one.
