New preprint from the lab! Led by @martingell.bsky.social .
There is something for everyone: brain-behavior prediction, latent variable modeling, test-retest reliability. 🧠📈📊

I miss you and your contagious energy and this is giving me fomo
my partner recently pointed out to me that neuro/psych academics use the word "lifespan" a lot and now I can't stop seeing it everywhere

Good scientists are leaving NIH.
Counter to the quote from HHS, NIH is struggling to recruit qualified scientists to replace them.
My own role sits empty. NIH cannot replace me since I am still employed but prevented from working.
This admin is gutting science.

Is it really too much to ask to live/work in a country where I’m not extremely anxious every time I have to go through customs?
Important call for action on the integration of research programs across species. Meaningful progress in the brain sciences will require cross-field collaborations and research that spans human and non-human animal models.
CN: Suicide
More than 90% of people who die by suicide are neurodivergent. "By studying the brain mechanisms for social connections, we aim to identify novel intervention points and new inroads for therapies to increase social connectedness." @drdebah.bsky.social:

I’m about to fly to the other side of the country with only a small backpack and something about this feels so wrong. 🙃
Still digging through this thorough report from @sanders.senate.gov. I want to flag this screenshot of what program staff receive when studies include "terms potentially associated with misalignment with agency priorities" (Newspeak for 'banned words')
My weekly update on NIH funding.
This is for all projects.

That dopamine hit you get when your hair stylist takes photos of your hair is truly unmatched
Ugh that's annoying!
You might already be familiar with this but if not: for Molecular Psychiatry (and other Nature journals) you can get detailed info about your manuscript throughout the peer review process on Research Square so you have some clarity about where/why it's stuck.
I did this when applying for jobs ~ 4 years ago. I found it extremely helpful as I got a better understanding of what the department was actually looking for and whether it was a good fit.
Based on that conversation, I decided whether or not I actually wanted to apply.
Thank you thank you!
Excited to share our new review “Mapping interactions between adversity and neuroplasticity across development” in @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social. We discuss how experience - particularly adversity - interacts with neuroplasticity during human development authors.elsevier.com/c/1mB5U4sIRv...
🧠 Not all brain age algorithms are equal!
In our new study, one algorithm (Pyment) outperformed other models in youth. Algorithms fail when your sample's age range is narrow or mismatched with training data. So, choose wisely...

You’re too kind!
Yess exactly!
I’m going to start using samples from my old writing to teach trainees how NOT to write, so at least some good will come out of it.
Thanks! I’ll check it out!
