I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...
New for @theverge.com: i wrote about how Kansas' trans ID law and the "age verification" systems popping up everywhere tie into larger efforts to force trans people to out themselves both IRL and online

HBO's Rooster, starring Steve Carell, kicks off with an exposition-heavy outing. Our recap:

the Austin mass shooter was a Tesla employee who assaulted a coworker during a company-allowed prayer break late last year
the company refused to give the victim her assailant's name so she could press charges, and he went on to become a mass shooter

We talked with Steven Conrad about what to expect from the rest of his HBO miniseries DTF St. Louis, middle-aged malaise, and the singularity of Gene Wilder.

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. She’s married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
They’ve already sent her to Louisiana.
talked to Steven Conrad about tackling "middle-aged malaise" in DTF St. Louis, & the inspirations for his new HBO series (ranging from a conversation about kinks to the Ashley Madison app)
good show, good performances, highly recommend!
went slightly long on Shah Rukh Khan in what is one of my favorite pieces i've gotten to write 🥰
Embrace the prolific career of Bollywood giant Shah Rukh Khan with our Primer. Here's where to start with King Khan:
really enjoyed talking to Yerin Ha, the powerhouse lead of BRIDGERTON S4, about her love of the romance genre & why she thinks it's important to see yourself represented as desirable on screen.
PARADISE kind of wrecked me with this week's episode. Shailene Woodley & Sterling K. Brown are doing some excellent work.
also appreciate how the show is subverting expectations set by a lot of other dystopian thrillers.
had a brief but fun chat with Myha'la and Marisa Abela about the INDUSTRY S4 finale and why they "crave" YasHarper as much as we do
I’m OBSESSED
news pegs are for cowards, it is always time for SRK
went slightly long on Shah Rukh Khan in what is one of my favorite pieces i've gotten to write 🥰
welp, the current shitshow nightmarish hellscape we live in rn is about to get SO MUCH MORE WORSE
what can I say, I am all in on Benedict and Sophie!!! BRIDGERTON S4, barring a couple of glaring missteps, really nails the sweet spot between fairytale romance and pragmatism imo.
& my gosh, Yerin Ha, what an all-encompassing performance.
i was thinking the exact same thing before we started lol!
got to go kinda long on Industry's insanely good music and interview their music supervisor, for @gqmagazine.bsky.social ! bless!!!

i really enjoyed PARADISE S1 & am glad to be recapping S2 weekly.
to me, it begins on a high note (especially the Graceland-set episode one), but you have to be a fan of Dan Fogelman's schmaltzy THIS IS US-style of storytelling (which i sure am!!!).
had a lovely chat with A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS' co-creator Ira Parker about nailing the show's very specific, non-GOT tone & how FX's BETTER THINGS (!) was an influence.
most impressed by his insightful takeaways on all things Ser Dunk, though:
NEW: ChatGPT and other chatbots are feeding users' fixations on real people, reinforcing users' delusional ideas and obsessions about others as they descend into unwanted harassment, stalking, and/or domestic abuse — traumatizing victims and profoundly altering lives.

At Google, speech critical of ICE is censored from the company's internal platform, employees who speak out are served with warnings, and leadership refuses to acknowledge a petition that's now gotten 1,200 employee signatures.
Inside the worker-led push to get ICE out of Google:
netflix's HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN FROM BELFAST—from DERRY GIRLS creator lisa mcGee—works better as a madcap buddy dramedy than it does as a thriller.
highly recommend it for a fun time, even if the show kinda spirals by the end.
