Hand embroidered, single strand DMC cotton and Devere silks. 73 colors and one month of work. This is a Himalayan monal whose picture I took myself at work, and I'm beyond stoked with how this came out. #handembroidery

She's done! 1.5 months, 71 colors(73 if you count the Gutterman spools), single strand #handembroidery . This is Puteri, a 1.5 year old sumatran tiger at the San Diego Safari Park! My first two tiger portraits were, coincidentally, of her parents. I'll be sharing comparisons with those soon!

Back with another update on this #handembroidery piece! I really only had the energy to do the ear today but I'm sooo close to being done... I won't have a lot of time to work on it over the next week, but maybe I'll have this done in two.

Another update on the princess! I'm stoked I really feel like it's moving now! I'm loving how the two sides of her face are interacting with the color palettes I'm using. #handembroidety #fiberarts

Put in 4ish hours on this today. Starting on the ruff, filled the snout, and fixed some areas that were bothering me. This is tricky because I have to work in a specific order, in layers basically, for it to look natural. Goal is to work on that chest and shoulder next so I can fill it out "forward"

Anyway I stood beneath a 110 year old fig tree, walked the art district from studio to studio, spoke to artists, bought art, went to museums, and finished it off with some delicious fish tacos and a marg to myself. San Diego was where I learned to LOVE my own company and that still stands

Do I just not want the trip to be over? Maybe. I'm not ready to leave the warm weather. I'm not ready to pop the vacation bubble. The west coast energy is just so freeing, so light. I'm so grateful for this trip. And I have to remind myself that I am incredibly grateful for how far I've come.

But the thing is idk what else I would have done. I had SUCH a good day yesterday walking art galleries and talking to the sweetest people. Had a great lunch by myself, went to museums. It was a perfect day. And I'm actually sitting here like "yeah but did I appreciate it enough?"

I did about 90% of the things I wanted to in the city. And I've been ACTIVE and on my feet every day so far. So I took today to rest before we fly out for the next leg of this vacation tomorrow. But I'm sitting here regretting wasting the time.

Man. It doesn't matter how much I check the boxes of what I want to do, how much I have enjoyable experiences I will ALWAYS feel like I didn't appreciate things enough. I wish I knew where that mindset comes from. Is it greed? Not wanting things to end?

I actually just posted a tutorial on how I do my stencils! The channel is pretty new, but I'm working on it 🥰

Anyway I'm rambling here. But it feels like we have returned as the products of those years. "Hello, you absolutely beat the shit out of us, and gave us every trial, but here we are. This is what you made us. And we love you for it."

I couldn't understand why this place still feels like home as soon as I stepped into it. But my hubs and I moved in together here, got engaged here, got our cat here, and set every foundation for our lives here.

And it was such a vivid, strange experience. Because I felt like I was stepping right back into that version of myself. I could have turned right instead of left and walked to my old job right down the street on the corner.

Memory is a wild thing. This morning we got up before dawn because jetlag and walked down for coffee. Walking around this neighborhood in the dark,morning chill, nearly knocked me off my feet. I spent 4 years walking to a job that killed me in this cold dark

I lived in San Diego at the wrong time in my life, because I have never appreciated this view as much as I do right now. Hello west coast, how I've missed you ❤️

I trace/plan the stencils over a reference photo, so that I can effectively map out my details and what colors go where!

Color selection mostly. I always struggle with the bridge of the snout because it's SO much real estate.
