every month or so someone makes a viral joke like this about how drawing porn (it’s usually specifically furry porn) is easy money. meanwhile every professional porn artist i know is constantly terrified that another site is gonna crack down on adult content due to pressure from paypal or mastercard

Today’s comic is drawn by Erika Moen in a traditional Oh Joy Sex Toy palette of background blues and character pinks. Throughout the pages, Erika is depicted in a red polka dot short dress covering some black leggings. She has a tattoo on her arms and a little bit of fluffy hair at the front of her head. In addition, her partner, Matthew, shows up wearing a pink T-shirt, brown pants, and bright red shoes. He has some stubble, glasses, and grey hair. Page 1 The page starts with Erika and Matthew's arms raised in celebration! Erika 'Happy 12th birthday Oh Joy Sex Toy!' Matthew 'Hot damn! You know what this means! Time again, to humbly ask you, our incredible readers, to help chip in and keep this comic site going with our yearly…' Title Pledge Drive! Erika holds a big handful of fabric out. She's 'oo-la-la!'-ing at it, while in front, Matthew is holding his laptop, which has comic pages flying out from within it, hitting him in the face. Erika 'The traditional gift for 12 years is silk or linen…' Matthew 'But we’re giving supporters bonus comics on our Patreon to celebrate!' A list of the bonus comics floats at the bottom of the panel. Ripley LaCross delves deep and explores what gardening means to them. Hien Pham talks from the heart about his time working at his local dog rescue shelter. And Erika Moen travels to San Francisco for an introspective magic wand journal comic. Matthew is now in a giant coffee cup, which has the price tag of $6.90 on it with a little 'nice’ alongside to reflect the comical number. Pouring out of this coffee cup is a fountain of coffee, leading to Erika who is flying in the tide in a big splash! Matthew is shown launching cups of coffee that have dollars on them towards an artist on the other side of the panel, who is happily catching them while sitting at a drafting table. He says the word 'Kobe!' As he does so. Matthew 'OJST is sex positivity with heart, humor, and real human experiences brought to life by an ever-changing lineup of amazing artists who are paid a professional rate and retain sole ownership of their work.' We see Erika’s floating head, sweating and covered in shadow, with worried lines. Erika 'But, it’s 2025 and things have never been crazier, for all of us. Specifically here at OJST, we’ve been dealing with:' Depicted next are three panels side-by-side, each one containing a different troubling issue. The first contains an 18 with a big slash across it. Narration'Attacks on adult content in our highest courts from people who want to restrict work like ours or make or even make it illegal.' The second has a big gavel hammer about to hit. Narration 'Suppression, erasure, and bannings on social media. Our posts and accounts struggle to exist, even though we censor our work to follow the rules.' The third shows a wallet with a little butterfly, or moth, floating away from it. Narration 'Costs going up. On top of the endless culture war on sex, we’re all tightening our belts under an economic recession, and feeling that pinch.' The bottom of this page depicts a downward graph arrow with small dollar signs floating off of it, which are getting smaller and smaller the further it goes down. Narration 'Across the board, creators are understandably watching the Patreon supporters slowly disappear because they just can’t afford the extra art luxury. We know how difficult life is at the moment, but our margins were already razor-thin before this, and now we’re sweating! If we want to keep the site going another year, we will need more support.'
Erika is holding a big pile of comics as she looks at Matthew, who is flipping a sign from open to closed with a worried look Erika 'Right now, we’ve got, like, 14 comics paid for and in the pipeline to be published, but if we can’t get our Patreon numbers up in the next handful of months…' Matthew 'We’re considering slowing down our hires, reducing the post schedule, and even – gulp – closing up shop at the end of the year.
