:( hanging in there! Good stuff: Singing, biking, baking, watching every food show I can get my hands on, being dragged down the hockey romance wormhole by my friend J 😂

#TIL that @drewscanlon.bsky.social is the blinking white guy and not ice dancer Charlie White 🤣. In my defense, I’m pretty sure I first saw this gif in ice-skating meme circles back in the day.

But hey, he also bikes around the Bay! And is raising money to fight MS.

I was lucky enough to be at a lunch w CA booksellers in spring 2014. The @greenapplebooks.bsky.social folks were telling me about this cool idea they had for "California Bookstore Day." Fast-forward 11 years and... happy Independent Bookstore Day, everyone! Go show your local indie some love. ❤️📚

Opening Bluesky just now, and the top three trending topics are Pope Francis, WrestleMania, and Pete Hegseth. Please tell me how to watch this epic matchup!

@booker.senate.gov says plainly that he's doing this because he was challenged by his constituents to rise to the moment. Our calls and emails and faxes and protests, they can all matter.

Cory Booker has just broken Strom Thurmond's record for longest Senate filibuster ever, which stood for 68 years.

Thurmond set it objecting to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Booker set it arguing against authoritarianism.

May Strom's name be forgotten and his memory erased.

The planet Jupiter with its cloud bands seen in shades of pink, rusty red, blue, and purple. The Great Red Spot is a deep navy blue, surrounded by bands and swirls of pink, and light blue. Hubble's ultraviolet view of Jupiter shows the planet in hues of pink and blue.

jupiter wishes you a very happy trans day of visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

A very old Soviet joke, from an especially dark time:

Foxes are fleeing the USSR in droves.
Q: Why are you running away?
Fox: The Soviets passed a new law that they’re going to arrest all camels.
Q: But you’re foxes!
Fox: Yeah, why don’t *you* try proving to the NKVD that you’re not a camel.

… how, in 2025, did a company decide that we didn’t need to see the balance on our transit cards when passing through a gate instead of having to check elsewhere to know if we need to load more money on them the next time we rode?! That’s a fail that shouldn’t have made it past the design phase.

Why are these new gates so slow? The old gates reacted fast enough that I didn’t have to break my stride when trying to catch an incoming train or transfer to an imminently departing bus. Now I have to tap, stop, hold, wait, and it’s like a 5 second process instead of a 2 second one.

Once again, one of the ways to understand what's going on right now is that the Federal government is doing LibsofTikTok stuff, finding individual posts they don't like and deciding that the person who said it needs to be punished.

If you don't want to see this horrible garbage happen in every future high-stakes election, make sure it demonstrably fails in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race by helping elect Susan Crawford

Hey Californians, time to support trans kids here at home; call your assembly members and tell them NO on AB 89.

I want us to study the history of resistance to slave catchers right now. I want us to study how slave catchers worked, how they were sanctioned, who paid them, and why they did what they did, right now. I want us to study the hyperlocal and networked ways slave catchers were impeded. Right now.

This is a better shot of the size of the crowd at Powder House Square for Rumeysa Ozturk. Less than 24 hours notice.

A President who disregards Congressional appropriations unifying all federal payments under a single department run by his appointees alone would have total control of the federal purse, capable of punishing or rewarding individuals at will.

"Anti-constitutional," as @jamellebouie.net says.

This EO is horrific and unconstitutional and the fact that it does not include a birth certificate as proof of US citizenship is a pretty strong signal about what they think of as the future for birthright citizenship.

Screenshot of a supposed review of The Naming Song, highlighting the phrase "Set in the verdant, ever-shifting lands of the Verduran, the story follows Elara, a young songweaver tasked with restoring harmony to her fractured world."

WTF. So I've got "AI" stealing my work on one side, and meanwhile it looks like a widely circulated review of my novel was written by a chatbot, featuring COMPLETELY INVENTED SETTINGS, CHARACTERS, and PLOTLINES?

They're going to kill Libby and all your other library book reading apps, programs funded by Congress which the administration (and certainly not Elon or his teen Nazi psychopath goons) has no power to shut down.

Maybe a day to call all your reps again and to demand action
