Today, as the Chair of NYC Council’s committee on Immigration, I held an oversight hearing to “Address the Mental Health Needs of Immigrants in NYC.”
Representatives of DOHMH and MOIA testified about how we are servicing the mental health needs of our city during this dire time.
To charge your e-bike, you have to check several apps to find the right bank! 🚲🔋
Simple barriers turn people away from bikes—Let’s fix that!
Today the Transportation Committee is hearing my bill INT115. Int115 would create 1 comprehensive app mapping e-bike charging stations.
So much of our culture, economy, and vibrancy has come from the contributions of immigrants.
So, take a minute to stop by this art installation and learn about some of these inspiring New Yorkers.
As chair of the NYC Council’s Immigration Committee, I have been fighting firsthand against the harmful narratives that are so often ascribed to our immigrant neighbors. But the truth is: nearly 40% of our city was born in another country.
Today, I’m celebrating @thenyic’s launch of the New York Proud campaign, a public art project that’s working to uplift immigrant voices in our city.

Why are the number of vacant units in NYCHA rising? I spoke with @abc7.bsky.social to provide an update since they last reported on the issue in ‘23.
I sponsored Int 111 to make data on vacancies publicly accessible & transparent. During a housing crisis, we must hold agencies accountable
Red Hook Community Update:

EDC has failed to address the concerns of my community, so yesterday, I was prepared to vote against the proposed BMT plan. With this postponement, I remain prepared to engage with our community members to address ongoing concerns.

Important things to know if you have an upcoming appointment in immigration court (esp 1 /eng 2). Learn this for yourself or inform your neighbors!
Join @jfrejnyc.bsky.social & @thenyic.bsky.social for court observation shifts to help safely escort people out of court proceedings: (1/2)
I’m with @thenyic.bsky.social and @jfrejnyc.bsky.social observing immigration court. The more people engaging in these public processes to share information with New Yorkers lacking representation, the safer our neighbors will be.

We can't continue to allow ICE to come into our city and inflict violence on our friends, neighbors, and even elected citywide officials. We demand that ICE release Brad Lander. And I urge you to make sure that YOUR elected representatives are paying attention & speaking out NOW.
✊Thank you to Councilmembers @cmalexaaviles.bsky.social and @cmcrystalhudson.bsky.social for joining our legal team today to observe immigration courts at 26 Federal Plaza.
Together, we will #ProtectOurFutures!

Today, the City Council is holding a Public Housing hearing seeking transparency on vacancies and transfers throughout NYCHA. Our current system desperately needs change. It is heartbreaking to see my constituents facing violence struggle with delays on transfers.
Every working New Yorker is under threat from mass deportation policy. If you think this fight isn’t yours, you’re wrong. Educate your community, support your neighbors. We protect us, we are stronger together, and we will never welcome ICE into our city.
