Get a typewriter like I did and that might not be your No. 2 problem any more.

I baked some chocolate chip cookies tonight so that I could finally finish off the dozen eggs I had that said โ€œUse by December 4โ€. As a bonus, I also got to finish off my nine-year-old bottle of vanilla extract. Which I bought more than three years before I needed it.

Sorry, I was just doing a little free association between two subjects you mentioned today, unusual animal behavior and earthquakes. I donโ€™t really anticipate a catastrophe striking your area anytime soon. And I think all earthquakes are stress relievers by definition, arenโ€™t they?

I hope theyโ€™re not on the move because they can sense the great big earthquake coming that all your little ones have been leading up to. ๐Ÿ˜จ

โ€œWhy do I still live here?โ€ is a complicated question. We all live where we live. It is neither a quick nor easy thing to change. An example of a simpler question to ask might be one such as, โ€œWhy am I still eating ice cream for dessert every night?โ€

It took a couple of hours, but I copied all my Pumpkin Sam Movie Reviews from Twitter over to Letterboxd. Some movies I didnโ€™t even remember watching. Wish I had done those reviews for more than a year or two. My Amazon watch history should fill in a bunch more gaps in my memory. Wish Hulu had that.

Already finished shoveling. Not nearly as bad as I feared. Like 3 inches of snow with an inch or two of crust on top. I chopped the crust into squares with the blade of my snow shovel so I wasnโ€™t lifting a big slab every time and it went pretty quick. Each shovelful was still pretty heavy though.

Got a few hours of snow followed by a whole day of sleet. I can see all my neighbors hacking at it using regular steel shovels so it must be like 3 inches of solid ice on the ground. I would love to wait until it melts but we are not supposed to see temperatures above freezing for at least a week. ๐Ÿฅถ

Just looked outside to see a fine dusting of snow. ITโ€™S STARTING. The timing is poor, there probably wonโ€™t be enough to shovel before I go to sleep and a whole lot when I wake up. ๐Ÿ˜• I was hoping to shovel a couple of inches every couple of hours to keep the strenuousity of the event to a minimum.

(Upon reflection, Trump and Barry would seem to share some similarities as politicians who consistently defied political gravity despite their apparently disqualifying antics. But at least the mayor is smiling in his photo. ๐Ÿ˜„)

@ktumulty.bsky.social I just read your Jan. 15 chat in which the subject of Trumpโ€˜s profane gesture at the Ford plant came up. You replied with a photo of Nelson Rockefeller in 1976. I thought you might enjoy seeing this (slightly) more recent and local example I once clipped from the Post.

Itโ€™s just a snowstorm, but the constant drum beat of people predicting power outages got me to run out and fill up the gas can for my generator. I canโ€™t plug in my furnace, but I have a little tiny space heater that will be better than nothing if disaster strikes. My food I could just put outside.

The calm before the winter storm... It is actually still sunny out right now. I raked and bagged a few leaves from my driveway and my fingers went numb in 10 minutes even though it is still a balmy 20ยฐ out. It will likely be single digits by the time I have to start shoveling snow. ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ โ„๏ธ โ˜ƒ๏ธ ๐Ÿฅถ

Wow! Never imagined I could get 117 more zippers for less than twice the price I was paying. But that is several lifetimesโ€™ worth of zippers for me. ๐Ÿ˜… I semi-screwed up my purchase anyway because I wasnโ€™t paying attention and got large tooth zippers. But they should work (havenโ€™t used them yet.)

I am sorry to hear that your sewed goods did not turn out to be a productive side hustle. You make such quality items with great fabric choices! I know what you mean about material prices - in 2024 I bought a zipper for $1.50, then last year I wanted another and best I could find was 3 for $8. ๐Ÿ˜•

Doing fine as far as I know, thanks for asking! Hopefully the antibiotics wiped it out before it could get established in me. I have one more appointment in June with both the regular researchers and the MRI brain researchers. I will be glad to start forgetting the whole thing ever happened.

One of my favorite tweets from the old days was posted by a friend of mine who came out of a screening of โ€œCowboys and Aliensโ€ disappointed that Harrison Ford never told the aliens to โ€œGet off my plain!โ€

Good luck with your wrist! For someone who does so much sewing, I expect that is a pretty important part of your anatomy. The MRIs I had last year were focused on a part of my body that never gets used. ๐Ÿ˜†

I am really not thrilled at the prospect of having a foot or more of snow this weekend, but I guess things could be worse.

Iโ€™m glad you liked it! I had a feeling my โ€œcomplaintsโ€ were a little nitpicky and personal only to me. (I did say it was well-made though!) And I do believe I would appreciate it more on a second watch. Youโ€™re right, Mia Sara was great. And Tom Hiddleston too of course. Wish we had more of him.

Last I heard, the predictions for the whopper storm include somewhere between zero and 21 inches of snow. So Iโ€™ve got that going for me, or not. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

So did you melt it and then stick your drill bits in while it hardened around them? And the holes werenโ€™t so tight that you could still get them in and out afterwards? How did you keep them all lined up? Did you wait until it hardened just enough to support them?

20.01.2026 02:05 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Iโ€™m confused, it seems to say it can be re-melted but then it also says it is locked in that shape forever. Which is it?

Yes, I associate โ€œsave the whalesโ€ with the 1970s as well. Sadly I would expect the current administration to set their sights on the endangered species act before their time is over. They have already taken nibbles out of it.

I just recently read that whale oil was used in automatic transmission fluid up until 1972. ๐Ÿ˜ณ It only stopped because that year the sperm whale was placed on the endangered species list. A person in the comments I read said they had an old bottle of sewing machine oil that said โ€œspermโ€ at the top.
