so many fandom questions boil down to “there are no hard rules and you should do what you want, but there will always be social consequences b/c you can’t please everyone”

lots of discourse in the air this week. is everybody okay

so. “SHOULD you tag top/bottom dynamics on AO3”

this is purely up to personal preference and what kind of audience you want to attract. I usually don’t! and especially not on SFW fics, but the limitations of what top/bottom can mean is an entirely different complex subject

at this point everyone has done their due diligence and it is the reader’s responsibility to leave quietly if they find something they do not like (unless it’s something that’s ACTUALLY against AO3’s very limited rules. an unusual scenario)

as a reader, you might miss some gems, but it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the “risk” of reading a fic that could contain things you don’t care for

as an author, readers with strong preferences might skip your less-tagged fic, and that’s fine, because that probably wasn’t the audience you wanted anyway!

if you think it’s important that so-and-so tops, then tag/filter for that. if not, then don’t.
