Primarily, yeah? But there’s a sizable third camp of those who’ve invested in it and use it daily but don’t see it as transformational (in its current form). They still have a ton of questions, are skeptical of direction and plateau (or regression), etc.

It’s hard to get Americans to see that at a federal level we actually can manage debt because it’s different, but not local. The fed gov is a different organism than anything else in American life and therefore subject to different rules. But getting people to see that is near impossible.

Agreed 100%. And that’s been my argument in local spending - that is where taxes and efficient spending make sense. It’s also why I’m generally opposed to social welfare programs at a municipal level due to inherently limited resources (“opposed” as in, if there’s no fed backing, it’s risky).

So I’m progressive, but base it on data which then aligns me more with “conservative” economists in my approach.

It’s weird because I am by definition a socialist (believing that worker ownership is best). But I base that on empirical studies showing that grassroots worker owned coops tend to come with a higher success rate than top-down. But they also come with their own problems.

Put another way, the CDU’s approach in Germany to education and healthcare makes sense to me.

At the same time, for local and state politics I’m extremely conservative on economics, wanting tight and targeted spending. Every penny spent should have an ROI attached at a local level.

I’m weird in economics in that for national economics I’m very progressive and anti-austerity and anti-conservative in MOST things. But I’d argue I still take a conservative approach, in that the progressive economic policies I support still need a pragmatic base.

Look, your body is your body. But if I looked like a prepubescent State Puff Marshmallow Man on his first day of work, I probably wouldn’t talk about being superior to anyone or uphold myself as the ideal.
