Fighting a rigged political system This week, the full bench of the High Court heard a challenge to Victoria’s changes to its campaign financing laws, brought by a pair ofΒ independent candidates. It is not the only case in the works. F...

Last year Labor, Libs & Nats pushed through laws to make it impossible for independents/small parties to run competitive election campaigns. The laws are unconstitutional. We’re asking the High Court to β€˜tell em they’re dreamin’. #auspol

I feel so betrayed by the Albanese Labor Govt.

The hate bill.
The Nacc.
Climate
Aukus
Asylum seekers
Poverty
Housing
Palantir
Social media ban
Electoral reforms

We’ve been betrayed 😞😞 #auspol

FOI costs double in a decade as full transparency halves Costs have doubled with full disclosures becoming more rare.

@albomp.bsky.social promised #transparency, but his preference for secrecy is becoming a national scandal - worse than Scott Morrison. It's not requests for transparency that cost money, it's resistance to transparency. #FOI #auspol

Albo just got booed at the memorial for the victims of the Bondi Beach shooting.

I immediately felt sick.

I’m also angry that this tragedy has been so politicised.

Albo is not to blame. The Labor government is not to blame.

Hateful extremists ARE to blame.

We need unity. Not more hate.

If HS2 was a motorway, it would have been built by now! But because new rail projects are minutely analysed with this "value for the taxpayer" nonsense. If road building was held to the same level of scrutiny, a sizable amount of the road network would still be cart tracks.

So much of our infrastructure, planning, environmental, and road safety measures seem to be based around politicians' fear of slightly inconveniencing easily-angered motorists. Pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users are barely considered in their calculations.

Australia's largest gas project given final approval to operate until 2070 Australia's biggest gas project, Woodside's North West Shelf, has received final approval to extend operations through until 2070.

Labor campaigned heavily on climate action. This is a national disgrace. How can Australia expect to host COP31, when our own government clearly demonstrates a lack of commitment to action on climate?

Shame on the Albanese government.

Congratulations American farmers, you now have a new market for beef.
What you don’t have is a market for it, or orders. And you won’t have.
Australians don’t want your 3rd rate beef and will not buy it, not even for pet food, so this is a very hollow victory.

If road deaths were a virus, we’d call it a pandemic. Safer transport helps us all – and we need it urgently | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Jean Todt Deaths on the road costs countries up to 5% of GDP. Centring transport around people, not cars, can propel development

β€œIf you had to guess the leading cause of death for children and young people around the world, what would you say? Malaria perhaps? Pneumonia? Suicide? They’re all high up there, but no, it’s road accidents.”

The ALP & LNP think they’ve stitched-up our democracy to keep their snouts in the trough. But it doesn’t have to be so if you use your power to vote for independents. You can vote for better politics or you can have more of the same. It’s up to you. #auspol

As their primary vote continues to fall & Australians wake up to the fact that all the issues we face are due to decades of putting their needs above ours - expect the major parties to increasingly circle the wagons to entrench their power - as we've seen today with electoral reform #auspol

the major parties have seen their primary votes fall from 96% in 1975 to 68% in 2022.

they had two options to arrest the decline:

1. win back trust with good governance & good policy
2. rig the system

tonight they chose to rig the system.

a dark day for australian democracy.

Here’s something we see far too often - car paraphernalia lazily intruding on pedestrian space.
When cars & their junk signage already hog so much of the street space.
At very least plonk it in the parking lane!

In Australia its a cheaper to cause an oil spill than to get a nursing degree

In Norway they tax their oil industry and give kids free degrees while in Australia we subsidise the oil industry and charge kids a fortune to go to uni

Priorities matter

I don’t mind people owning cars. What I do mind is the insistence that they should be allowed to leave them on publicly funded streets, while also demanding an excess of parking lots that consume finite urban space, sterilize our environment, and make cities more hostile to exist in.
