05.07.2025 09:58 โ ๐ 514 ๐ 193 ๐ฌ 12 ๐ 7Today the order banning #PalestineAction as "terrorists" came into effect. But they are not terrorists. They are protesters trying to stop a genocide. This is a "first they came for ..." situation. Unless we stand in solidarity against this assault on our freedom, they will pick us off one by one.
05.07.2025 06:12 โ ๐ 5399 ๐ 1804 ๐ฌ 171 ๐ 78How is this anything other than blatant censorship? Our national broadcaster deciding, preemptively, that some artist may hold certain views and refusing to broadcast their performances in case they express said views.

Backlash against bad things is good, and I'm glad to see it reach a level necessitating a trend piece like this one.

I have many snarky things to say about this philanthrocapitalist propaganda sponsored by the family that brought you food deserts.
But letโs keep it simple.
Corporations have always used tech bubbles to disrupt labor solidarity & smuggle labor intensification under the veil of efficiency.
"Itโs created such wreckage to have implied that history and humanities are luxury goods, rather than essential services... more to the point, the idea that only science really matters has been enormously destructive."

Once again, the Israeli media has never shrunk from reporting what is actually happening, or from identifying it as a mortifying disgrace.

Today @sparcopen.bsky.social announced the theme for this year's Open Access Week!
We've already got ideas cooking for this one!
if you're a researcher, what are your biggest concerns when it comes to the ownership of your work? How do they impact your decision to publish open access?
According to the UN, Israelโs attacks on educational and cultural sites in Gaza and the West Bank amount to crimes against humanity.
โMember statesโ continued sales of weapons and business relations with Israel [are] acts of complicity.โ
What we're doing in the uni sector is shutting off routes for kids with Bs and Cs to do key (and prestigious) subjects, and closing down the ability of young people to go to the local uni just when it becomes ruinous expensive to go way. Will have incalculable consequences for social mobility.

23.06.2025 06:22 โ ๐ 132 ๐ 53 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 3The underlying principles here are hardly controversial. We have agreed, as societies, that intellectual property should be protected. It is right that people should benefit from their labour. So, it is also right that the businesses that develop and publish books, music, films and so forth should benefit from their work. Moreover, it is not only right, but economically beneficial. It creates economic value. If companies wish to benefit from the creativity of others, they should pay them. That is why civilised countries recognise copyright.
It amazes me that all this is debatable.
