I like to imagine Purple Pond's humans are quite a bit sturdier physical than an average real world human. That being said, they also have horrific magic-related illness vulnerabilities. Can't let them have it too good.

November Progress Report

i think the chapter 3 outfits for all three trainees turned out really cute. looking forward to drawing them more

I considered giving Lynn very visible hair needles to make it more obvious her hair is in a bound braid, but decided to not do that. Will hold onto the idea, though

Ava's personalized highlight was chipped blocks. Loraine's was crescents. Lynn's was ovals. Junko's was sparkles. Kit's was cats.

I used to enjoy picking out character specific highlights for each character but when I shifted by stylization tendencies I dropped it. I've considered reincoproating it as a permanent thing for my current style off and on for a while

Pandora's dot eyebrows were originally supposed to be just a pattern on her skin instead of extra horns, so that difference is not a style thing. that is legit a small design change

I also forgot she used to have the same cat head hair highlights as Kit

I recently went digging through my backups for my old PandoraPortrait to see how my style backthe compared to the one I used for my current one and was very struck by how my art style had changed a ton in 4 years

My idea of what Loraine looked like as a kid fashion wise is very different now than when I drew a reference for her ages ago.

I'm not illustrating my short stories right now, but thinking of her outfits does make me wanna doodle her fashion back from before she was adopted.

Trouble can happen anywhere, so a magical girl should always have her magic item, but that doesn't mean it should interfere with her ability to be stylish

In order to avoid having to build Ava's outfit styles entirely around things I can tolerate pairing with a bow tie, sometimes when thinking up new ideas I just imagine the bow tie is on her wrist when designing an outfit, so it's more like a cute bracelet.

I'm also experimenting with Lynn's face stylization again.

Originally it was a heavily stylized, soft, blocky shape. In the doodles I'm experimenting with more realistic take on that since my style isn't as simplified as it used to be.

side note:I've also concluded I should practice drawing my characters' faces more to the point that I practically develop muscle memory for drawing them.

I did not get a lot of writing work done this week ,but I did do a bunch of notebook doodling and I've nailed down 2 outfit-hairstyle combos so far(1 for Junko and 1 for Lynn). Once I figure out Ava's outfit and haircut for the chapter,I'll be ready to confidently illustrate another chapter

If Cecilia were to have taken after her more beastman relatives more strongly,I imagine she'd have likely become cattish like her mom, but I'm very fond of the idea of her being more piggish like her grandmother

I don't think the concha's outer layer looks as tasty as it could have been, but considering its filling and tone of the picture I guess that works

the clear goop over the eye is supposed to be the vitreous humor having escaped from it's natural containment capsule within the eye after she bit into it. I think its strongest appeal point for me is that the spilled humor helps the eye contrast amongst the other bloody guts.

A woman is eating a baked good full of guts and blood. Some of the blood trickles from the corner of her mouth and a few droplets have fallen onto her transparent raincoat that she wears over a long sleeve shirt.

i was worried about her hair when the concha actually turned out to be a more troublesome. Not a ton, but I was tested

Pandora's actual base skin color is already not super vibrant which helps make things a smidge easier when it comes to giving it a gloomy vibe with shading. Her bright pink hair might be a bit more difficult to get gloomy-looking. We'll see

normally when shading in this style I lay the skin color flats from the reference and build up to a more vibrant look.

For this one, I used a dark purple as the base and treated Pandora's base skin color as more like lighting.
