Leg: 012 | Week: 6 | SCVQ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCEL πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 107 nm | Time: 1h 7m

Back in the skies after a holiday break. Perfect flying conditions with barely a cloud in sight. Landed in #Santiago, the first major city of the trip. Taking this chance to stock up on peanuts. #MSFS2024 #FlightSim

I have pretty simple algorithm.

1. Is it in the general direction?
2. Can I get there in roughly 1-2hours?
3. Does the general scenery look nice en route?
4. Any points of interest to check out?

Leg: 011 | Week: 4 | SCIE πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCVQ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 125 nm | Time: 1h 38m

Another perfect Chilean summer dayβ€”clear skies and costal flying all the way. Small rural strip meant another go-around and a wobbly landing. Kept the peanuts firmly on my side of the cockpit.

Leg: 010 | SCQK πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCIE πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 98 nm | Time: 48m

Clear skies with a solid tailwind, but the turbulence was wild. Barry demolished the peanut stashβ€”resupply needed ASAP.

Week 2 of my round-the-world-the-wrong-way trip in the can. It's a bit light on miles, but I've been busy.

That's a really good question! I was on "live" so it should be real-season.

Leg: 009 | SCST πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCQK πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 258 nm | Time: 2h 20m

Pre-sunrise takeoff in still air. Smooth flying with coastal fog, though the rudder got a workout. Landed clean and stayed on the runway.

Leg: 008 | SCMK πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCST πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 84 nm | Time: 58m

Bazza's back! Fluffy clouds, moody a times. First landing attempt was too fast, second had a crosswind that put me off the runway. Rough landing, but we walked awayβ€”so it counts, right?

Leg: 007 | SCVS πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCMK πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 229 nm | Time: 2h 26m

Early start, great lighting over snow, forests, and islands. Low clouds hid mountain peaksβ€”had some close calls. Came in too hot for landing, needed a go-around. From now own, I'm calling Chile "The Canada of the South".

Leg: 006 | SAWC πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· -> SCVS πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 162 nm | Time: 1h 42m

Decided on over instead of around. "Foothills" of the Andes my arse. Full throttle most of the way just to dodge those peaks. Fog didn’t help either. Landing was tight, had to do a go-around. Bazza took the easy wayβ€”flew commercial.

Finding the same - I have turbulence set to medium, but I'm bounded around in what should be relatively still air. Going to be wild as I get closer to the equator at this rate.

Just an un-announced light aircraft without a registered flight plan and a stack of anonymous boxes flying over South America, nothing to see here, move along ;)

Leg: 005 | SCNT πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SAWC πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· | Dist: 86 nm | Time: 1h 9m

Barry’s back in action as we hopped from Chile to Argentina. Wasn't expecting the landscape to look so much like Africaβ€”felt oddly like coming home. Cruising high, clear skies, barely a bump in sight. Tail number randomly changed tho. Spooky.

Leg: 004 | SCDW πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCNT πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 139 nm | Time: 1h 20m

No Barry today, dude was pissing me off. Swapped out the weight and floats for speed, and picked up a 10 MPH boost. Hit 10,000 ft, then trimmed for a slow descent over 100 miles of perfect Southern Hemisphere summer. Found a volcano too.

Headwinds, storms & mountains. Occasionally getting a bit lost trying my luck at dead reckoning. Learned a lot since then though - maybe time to ditch the floats.

Saved me redoing a bunch of legs last time, mostly running out of fuel in very isolated parts of Africa. Water landings don't count as a crash!

Leg: 003 | SCAZ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SCDW πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 95 nm | Time: 1h 5m

Smooth and simple. Started with some snow-dusted peaks, then a cruise over the plains before a quick skip across a fjord to touch down. Barry still pissy about the last leg. Mood: relaxed and somewhat smug.

Leg: 002 | SAWH πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· -> SCAZ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± | Dist: 32 nm | Time: 33m

Corkscrewed up to 5000ft to clear the snow-capped peaks followed by a chilled flight over fjords. Barry was as shocked as about the size of the airfield. Went for a walk to calm the nerves.

I wish. Plan is to do this in very small chunks of 1-2h hours at a time, I think it'll take me 1, maybe 1.5 years to complete. I've done Cape Town to London via Dubai in the same plane, that took just over 3 months.

Leg: 001 | SCGZ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡± -> SAWH πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· | Dist: 23 nm | Time: 34m

Short hop to start the adventure: low-flying, light winds, and a new joystick test. Nearly clipped a commercial airlinerβ€”Barry's unimpressed. Smooth landing, but parked miles from anywhere. Taxi time: 10 minutes. Mood: slightly embarrassed.

I'm going to fly a Cessna 172 from the tip of South America to the tip of Africa in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

The rules:

1. Each leg of the trip starts and ends on a runway.
2. No autopilot.
3. A crash restarts the current leg.
4. Live weather, real-time.
